Do u use Fraps for capturing the frames for the ani-gif?
Nice one Psi!
Oh the gif I use Fraps but I have never made a video GIF. I make them from individual frames (pics) and make it that way in Photoshop or GIMP some times when I want to use one of their scripted functions. It is not as smooth as a video but there are other options which I like to usse for example; I can take the four pics and place them on top of each other and then once it is saved I can cut out a portion (like the head in this one) and discard the rest.
If I wanted to I can make this gif smaller and use it as an avatar.
Here, are some faves all made from individual frames (pics) using Photoshop:
Oblivion
Fallout 3
They are really easy to make and then when you get good at it you can make more cojmplex ones like these banners I made for the release of the TSLRCM version 1.8.1 a few years back
KOTOR II The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification (TSLRCM)
and one I made for my friend Nessa (an incredible modder whose mods are not available here) This was the hardest one I ever made. It is a combination of a scripted function in GIMP and the bump mapping done in PS (which was done first). Yes there is a major mistake on the children's clothing but by the time I notic3ed it was way too late. it took hours of work to get the flag moving behind the man and countless of touch ups to make it look good that I just let it be.
On the last one this is how I would have done it. (should work in both PS and gimper)
turn on quickmask and draw around the edges of the man (that or lasso if you are lazy). Cut and paste in place on a different layer (ALWAYS separate each object into different layers, cause RAM is cheaper then painkillers and having everything on one think will get you a headache). Then distort the flag over a number of frames to make it look like its moving.
The original version had 15 layers just for the moving flag which in the end I only used 2. It was just too much work making it look good with all the touch ups that were necessary on every layer. If I missed one touch up on just one layer the whole gif suffered.
There was a time I was heavily into GIF making. I am not the best but I always try to make fun ones that are a little different from the norm.
