About this mod

Gets rid of the glowing lights on all pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, and sniper rifles that can be used by the player (An optional file for Geth rifles is planned to be added in a future update). After all, slapping lights on a rifle is a great way to reveal its position and get the user killed.

DESCRIPTION:

A retexture for all player-usable weapons, to remove the glowing lights that emit from the side panels and the scopes. Because putting bright, flashy LEDs on a rifle makes for an easy target. (Then again, so does putting bright, flashy LEDs on a set of armor, but it'll take me a little while longer to modify all of those.) I also plan to remove the glowing lights on Geth weapons, but that will have to come in a future update.

This mod probably isn't for everyone, but I figured that, since I like the change, I might as well share the modded files I made, in case anyone else wanted to use them. There's no denying that the glowing lights on Mass Effect's weapons look cool, which I'm sure is why BioWare bothered to put them in. But when I look at them, as neat as they are, all I can think is "This would make the shooter a really easy target". So I decided to change that. And having used this mod myself for a little while now, the weapons still look unique and interesting, simply because they have distinctive, futuristic shapes. They just look much more like actual weapons and much less like glow sticks.

Note that, besides removing the light source, this mod does not change the look of the weapons in any other way, and they are still their old, blurry, 512 x 512 selves. While I don't know of any high-res mods that include upscaled textures for the weapons in ME1, keep in mind that installing any other mod that modifies these textures will effectively overwrite the effect of this one (unless of course that mod author also decides to remove the glowing lights).

REQUIREMENTS:

Install it with ME3Explorer 3.0 (recommended)
OR
Mass Effect Modder (You should be able to install any TPF with MEM, as far as I know, I just haven't tested it myself)

7Zip, WinRAR, or a similar program for extracting compressed files

NOTE:

If, like me, you enjoy using the sublime, high-quality textures of the Mass Effect Updated/ Improved Textures (MEUITM) mod, you should generally install this mod, or any other texture mod, after you install MEUITM. Because it has a proper installer and a massive amount of textures, MEUITM seems to modify a lot of game content, so it's advisable to install it before anything else for best results.

INSTALLATION:

For those who already know how to use ME3Explorer and TPF Tools, simply download the file, extract the "Weapon Glowing Light Remover" file somewhere safe, and load it into TPF Tools. Use TPF Tools to install it as you would any other texture mod.

If you're not sure what I mean by that, and/or if you've never used ME3Explorer before, I should have a dedicated tutorial page or video up fairly soon, but for now, you can read the detailed tutorial on my Reduced Lens Flares mod for ME3. The process is basically the same, just make sure that the tools are set to "Modding ME1" instead of "Modding ME3".

OTHER VERSIONS:

ME2 version coming soon (probably once I modify the relevant files for my next playthrough)

ME3 version coming soon (probably once I prepare for my next playthrough, and/or get annoyed by the glowing weapons in multiplayer)
