Mass Effect Overwritten - MEOw - is a collection of subtle textual modifications for Mass Effect. Currently comprising over 600 edits, MEOw allows for a more consistent and immersive experience in detail.

UPDATE - January 10, 2021: With the release of 0.4, I've fixed a bunch of bugs that you all have reported to me. I apologize to all who waited more than a year for that. I am very grateful to Kinkojiro and Mgamerz, who gave me a solution.

MEOw is an English-only mod. MEOw is currently in an alpha stage (0.x) - if you know of issues, please submit them! Your contributions will be very much welcomed.

Requirements:
MEOw does not require any DLCs or mods to be installed.
MEOw does not require a new savegame for versions 0.3 and up.

Recommendations:
MEOw is compatible with and contains content edits for ME1 Recalibrated and the official Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station DLC.
If you are looking for an enhanced Mass Effect experience, it is highly recommended that you play with both MEOw and ME1 Recalibrated installed.

Installation:
Option A: Install with ME3Tweaks Mod Manager.
Option B: Extract the folder DLC_XMEOw into Mass Effect/DLC.

Updating:
Simply replace DLC_XMEOw with a newer version.

Uninstallation:
Delete the folder DLC_XMEOw under Mass Effect/DLC.

Goals:
MEOw aims for a more consistent and immersive Mass Effect experience through textual modification. The following is a general (but not comprehensive) list of the goals that MEOw comprises or hopes to fulfill:

01 [Physical Dimensions] All physical quantities should be expressed with the corresponding units for their physical dimension.
02 [Unit Symbols] Rewrite atomic unit symbols and abbreviations in accordance with the International System of Units (SI) for SI and SI-derived units and the case-sensitive Unified Code for Units of Measure (UCUM c/s) for other units or if the SI form cannot be represented in-game.
03 [Unit Spacing] Maintain spacing between numerical values and their corresponding unit symbol in accordance with SI formatting standards.
04 [Digit Spacing] Separate groups of digits in accordance with the Wikipedia Manual of Style: groups of three digits are separated with commas (unless there are exactly four digits, in which no separation takes place).
05 [Calendar Era] Specific years in time are to be followed by a space and "CE", denoting the calendar era as the common era.
06 [Representative Phrases] Misleading phrases are to be corrected by replacement with representations more accurate to the narrative of the game and modern scientific consensus.
07 [Capitalization] Words or phrases should follow a single convention for capitalization except in titles.
08 [Title Case] Words in titles (including in parenthetical phrases within titles) must be capitalized unless they are articles, short (< 5 letters) prepositions, or conjunctions.
09 [Parts of Speech] Words that are meant to be in particular parts of speech should be written in the corresponding form.
10 [Spelling Conventions] Words should be spelled according to American English conventions.
11 [Spelling Consistency] Names, words, and phrases should be spelled in a consistent manner. Spellings that are voiced as part of the script or part of the Primary Codex should take the highest priority; spellings that are most common across the entire trilogy should be used. Spelling comprises the case-insensitive combination and permutation of spaces, hyphens, and alphanumeric characters.
12 [Grammar] Sentences should be grammatically sound; periods, commas, semicolons, colons, exclamation marks, and question marks terminating a sentence should be preceded by an alphanumeric character and, if succeeded by any more characters, must be immediately succeeded by exactly one space followed by an alphanumeric character.
13 [Style] Style, including diction, should be self-consistent and consistent with conventions in modern-day usage.

Example Modifications:
(This list is non-comprehensive. A better way of organizing these fixes is in the works.)
- Fix typos such as in Dr. Michel, Kahoku, or May O'Connell's name.
- Add, remove, or change punctuation where errors occur such as lacking spaces after periods.
- Use standard American English spellings for words such as "sulfur", "protester",
- Use adjectival forms when necessary like "quadrupedal" or "arcological".
- Correct "Horse Head Nebula" to "Horsehead Nebula".
- Use consistent capitalization such as in "hot labs".
- Fix all planet descriptions to use standardized statistical formatting conventions, including using proper unit symbols and adding back units that are missing.
- Use names for important alien characters such as the Council or Matriarch Lidanya.
- Fix ability upgrade descriptions to use standardized statistical formatting conventions.
- Remove unnecessary spaces of hyphens from words like "extrasolar" or "cyberwarfare".
- Add missing hyphens to words like "medi-gel" and "omni-gel".
- Use proper scientific terminology such as "apoapsis" as opposed to "apogee".
- Fix military jargon such as the use of the phrase "Quarter Master" which should be "Requisitions Officer".

For a more comprehensive (but still not complete!) and slightly more organized list of fixes, see this spreadsheet.
