About this mod

This is an intentionally basic mod to modify some elements of the Far Cry 3 interface that are annoying or detrimental to gameplay, eg minimap and camera HUD. It is preferable for users to unpack these files and include them alongside other more expansive mods.

This mod currently replaces the textures used for the minimap elements and the camera HUD elements in order to improve gameplay and/or remove distracting visual elements. The minimap remains intact because I think functionally it is fine, but I have removed the icons for collectables and enemies from displaying, so that more exploration is needed. I have also removed the squares from the camera screen.

Other than that, the game is completely unchanged. This mod is aimed at users who have recently starting playing the game, it will not be an overhaul or make gameplay changes. I aim to add more changes/fixes to the interface in future. Please comment with any particular annoyances or suggestions you have.

If you want to use any elements of this mod alongside others (this is recommended!), you will need to unpack this mod and include my fixed files when repacking with other mods. The process for doing this is detailed in the modding thread on the UbiSoft forums:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/734046-Mods-for-Far-Cry-3

Below (and in the .rar) I have listed the specific files I have modified, and their function.

DETAILS:

- removed some icons from displaying on the minimap:
[common_original\ui\supertextures\h_minimap_0.xbt]
icons for loot chests, leaves, relics, letters, enemies deleted.

- removed the small annoying squares from the camera HUD
[common_original\ui\singleplayer\textures\camera\tx_big_square.xbt]
[common_original\ui\singleplayer\textures\camera\tx_square.xbt]
[common_original\ui\singleplayer\textures\camera\tx_square_dot.xbt]
replaced with fully transaparent images.

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

This file follows the method pioneered by others on Ubisoft Far Cry 3 forum of repacking the patch files for the game to include modified files from the main game install. As such any files in these patch files override original data.

You do not need to start a new game in order to use this mod.

// First method, to play the game with only this minor fix: //

1. Browse to your Far Cry 3 install directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\) and find the data_win32 folder.
2. BACKUP YOUR VANILLA 1.04 FAR CRY 3 PATCH FILES:
patch.dat
patch.fat
3. Extract the included patch files to that directory.
4. Play the game.

// Second method, to use these fixes alongside other mods: //

1. Read the modding thread on the official UbiSoft forums:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/734046-Mods-for-Far-Cry-3

You will need to understand how to unpack patch files, and repack them using the Gibbed Dunia 2 tools. This is not a complicated process as long as you follow instructions.

2. Extract my patch files and unpack them into a new folder using the tools.
3. Do the same with any other mods you wish to use (use separate destination folders).
4. Check for conflicts within the mods (most important part - failure to check which files are absolutely necessary for each mod in order for them to work correctly). Luckily my mod only replaces textures so it should not conflict, but if other mods change the same files then it will overwrite them.
5. Move my unpacked folders to your patch compilation directory along with all other mod files you intend to use.
6. Unpack the existing vanilla Far Cry 3 patch to its own folder.
7. Repack all files to a new patch .fat/.dat using the method described here:
http://www.modding.fc3wiki.com/Tutorial
8. BACKUP YOUR VANILLA FAR CRY 3 PATCH FILES
9. Copy the newly compiled patch.fat/.dat to the data_win32 folder inside the Far Cry 3 install dir.
10. Play the game.

PLANNED FUTURE ADDITIONS:

I intend to remove the extra elements from the camera screen, remove the tagging icons, and remove the 'wallhack' that allows you to see animals/humans through walls. The latter is a .dll hack so I may only include notes to allow users to fix it for themselves if they wish.

I will also look at other annoying UI elements and tweak them.
