About this video

This song has bothered -- no haunted me -- for over 50 years. What was Sally's secret, what did the roses have to do with it? I've read several interpretations that include Sally having a drug problem, she was pregnant, she killed her lover, killed her rival, her secret was that she was a lesbian and a few more. Anyway, in addition to that there were as many as 10 people doing vocals and a number of musicians popped in to play for the recording. The Jaynetts were Yvonne Bushnell, Ethel Davis , Ada Ray Kelly, Johnnie Louise Richardson and Mary Sue Wells. This was their only song. They were assembled in the studio as a group just to record Sally for Abner Spector.

Anyway this is my interpretation of what Sally did.

Music Producers sometimes force singers to do personal projects, I seem to recall a VH1 behind the music where Sting said he hated "Every breath you take" and he thought it was creepy but producer Hugh Padgham forced him to sing it as he was under contract, and it was really the producer sending a message as a jilted lover to an recent ex. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and all that... (shivers)

And in the '60s the music producers were all powerful. Abner Spector was a name to be feared and respected. He brought these singers together, had them record the song and that was it. I don't think they even made an American Bandstand appearance. Spector made his money though. On the flip side of the pendulum swing, however, I don't think it's worth $250 to sit in nose bleed territory of a huge stadium to hear a rock super star.

      Interesting story about Sting.

I checked out the lyrics, and it seems to me that she was pregnant and lost her baby to another girl (another mother) because of going downtown to get drugs. That's why it was a sad thing to go there? Just an interpretation 8) That is strange! The whole image shows here Very nice though

Pregnant - yep. Given that it was 1963, that it is very plausible.

I seldom venture over here. But this was a chance for shooting an extra endorsement at this masterpiece

A.W.E.S.O.M.E., each shot is a masterpiece!!!
Each time I think about your new work "Now hey, that's the limit of how good things can look an be pictured in FO4" you do your next work, which is even more beautiful *O*

I would vote that she killed her rival. Or planning to do that.

Interesting, the full size embedded picture shows here -- unlike the image share. Hmm..

Edit: Odd, I tried to make this a "sticky". I couldn't. Error - Only authors or staff can stick or un-stick comments.
