About this mod

Provides an alternate way to decode the Courser Chip.

Purpose

Adds a console in Virgil's lab which enables you to decode the Courser Chip once you have retrieved it. Most useful for a playthrough where your preferred faction alignment is the Brotherhood, the Minutemen, or the Institute.

It's never made sense to me that while there are three different factions that can help you get into the Institute, there is only one (the Railroad) that can decode the Courser Chip.

If you prefer to keep the Railroad as enemies, or not deal with them at all, you can do the decoding with this console instead.

CAUTION: Depending how early you use it in the game, this workaround may effectively turn off all further player association and questline progress with the Railroad entirely; you may not be able to find them under the church, recruit Deacon, take quests, etc. So use the workaround only if you are role-playing a character where that doesn't matter.

The mod is available in either .esp or .esl versions.

Requirements

None, just the base game.

Recommended Additional Mods

No additional mods are required, but if you're doing a new playthrough and want a different experience, you might enjoy these:

Full Dialogue Interface by Cirosan and shadwar
Silent Protagonist by StupidDunmer and VladiMatt

Usage

The "Chip Analyzer" console is in the corner of Virgil's laboratory, next to a set of shelves. Use it once you have the Courser Chip in hand and "The Molecular Level" quest has been started. The quest will be advanced to the next stage and you can then tell Virgil the chip has been decoded. If he asks who helped you, just give him an evasive answer!

(If you use the console at any other time, it will just print a message that "Nothing happens.").

Compatibility

No known mod conflicts so far.

Installation

Use your preferred mod manager (tested with Nexus Mod Manager and Vortex).

When using Nexus Mod Manager to install the .esl version, you may need to manually enable (check mark on) "Virgil's Courser Chip Decoder.esl" in the Plugins tab, even after activating the mod.

Uninstallation

Uninstall using your preferred mod manager.
