In Fallout 4 I use elevators pretty often and I really liked the idea to travel between locations with load elevators instead of load doors with loading screens. But from the beginning I was annoyed by absence of light inside loading elevators when there definitely electricity power since elevators are moving. In many cases it was possible to explain missing light bulbs by game lore, but when I entered Vault 81 and found no lights inside their elevator that was enough for me, so... ehh.. I did nothing with that.
But many months passed since then and I decided to make a settlement mod for the game. I have planned many features for it including moving between cells on load elevators. Many elevators. ELEVATORRRRRRS!!! And in testing of that mod I had to use them often. Yep. And I got an Idea how to solve the one of the problems annoying me since my first days in Fallout 4.

In short..
..this mod adds light sources to every load elevator in game. In vanilla game and also should be in every mod what uses default load elevator system.

Just a reminder. By load elevator I mean the one what you can use to move between game cells (load them to memory), not the one what you can use to load heavy stuff in real life and definitely no the ones what you can build in game in your settlement. This kind will stay unchanged.

To Do list:
  • Smooth transition to elevator (at closing the doors)
  • Random light flickering during the ride

This should work with new game and also with current saves.
Theoretically is also should be compatible with any mods, even the ones what change elevator cells until they add more lights to them. But why would you install two mods doing same thing?

None for now. I can add some in future. If you want any to be added or found a new one - please let me know.

To install use Nexus Mod Manager or just unpack files to your game folder and enable zElevatorLights.esp by your preferred way.

To uninstall leave any location with open elevators and do a save, then exit game and remove zElevatorLights.esp from your mod list.

Q: Will this mod corrupt my save files?
A: No, it shouldn't. As I know mostly it happens by scripts what stay running in your saves after uninstalling mods. But this mod is script, fat, GMO and gluten free!

Q: Will I get FPS drop by using this mod?
A: Only if you play on integrated video card with a laptop assembled about 18 years ago. Elevator cells are so small and have just a few objects in them so adding some light sources shouldn't decrease your FPS. Also this mod doesn't change any preexisting game objects and only add some new ones so your precombined meshes (if you understand what is it - that's cool) should be safe. Doing something wrong with them is the main reason for FPS loss and visual glitches as I understand.

Q: ELEVATORRRRRSSS!!!
A: So you do like using elevators, right? Then you can get "ElevatorLights Chocolate Glaze" file from files tab and install it too. Then, in game, open your console and type "coc zElevatorTestRoom" (without quotes) and use any of the elevators to travel until your head spins. When you'll get enough fun from that just use fast travel to get out of there.

Q: Will there ever be an ESL version of this?
A: Sure, check files tab for ElevatorLights Vanilla Ice Cream edition.

Q: Why do I see light only when elevator is moving? Why is it still dark inside when I open the doors?
A: Because of reasons. And by that I mean that's how it is made in game when elevator script opens "portals" to elevator cells. By some reason it only affects static objects and don't do anything to light sources. I got some ideas how to fix that but I'll have to add some scripting. I can do it but for now I have enough other things to take care of. And also scripts will make life harder to people who like to uninstall mods. I'll think about that later.

Q: Why do you name your file archives after some food?
A: I was a bit hungry when I made them.

Q: Maybe next time you should make a dinner before that?
A: I'll think about it.

Q: Why is there black square in top right corner of your video? Are you afraid to show us your FPS?
A: Nope. That's a weird thing from nvidia screen capture software. I found it only when all recording was ready and I'm too lazy to fix that.

Q: Except screenshots and downloading the files is there any other way to see what you did there?
A: Yep.

(hope this video will work here, had some troubles with it)
