About this mod

Have your female or male protagonist speak German or French or Japanese or Italian or Spanish but with English subtitles (All DLCs included). Plus other stuff in Misc downloads. Plus plus: I have also added English files for those who wish to have an English speaking protagonist with whatever interface they are using.

DESCRIPTION:

Your female and male character will speak German or French or Japanese or Italian or Spanish in the main game and DLCs. Make sure to install the language you want--only one file needed. Read the file descriptions. Note: If you have a mod that adds voice files such as a unique companion mod, your character will break immersion, in a sense, and speak mostly English with that unique companion.

In addition, I have added an optional English file for players who wish to have an English speaking protagonist. For example, if you have the Spanish version of the game, everything, but your character, will remain in Spanish. PM if it anyone finds an issue. I did not test this.

I have changed the language of some NPCs, as well, including one companion: Curie will speak French, including the Robot version. [see credits] I didn't use any assets. My files edit the ba2. These main files are not loose files. Nonetheless, give props to other authors who have painstakingly downloaded different languages for Fallout 4 in order to change a smattering of character voice files, so that others didn't have to.

Addendum: In misc files, I have added an English Curie ba2 to overwrite whichever main file you are using. Loose files are provided for convenience only.

Special Note: you can create your own companion/ npc loose files for the main game with little effort. The DLCs are different however; the game loads those files differently and loose files will not overwrite the ba2s like the main game, as far as audio is concerned. I might make a short tutorial for editing voice files in a ba2. Might...

I could have made the files for the main game loose, but I wanted to avoid performance issues; however, you will find loose files under Misc files for changing some NPCs--four total so far. Don't worry you will find them in the game.

Files thus far:
  • Female/Male Protagonist: German or French or Japanese for the main game and DLCs.
  • Raiders (Main game and any that use the same audio files): German, French, Japanese, or Spanish.
  • Companions: Curie - French, included in the Main and DLC files; Piper - Japanese, included as loose files in the Misc files.
  • NPCs: German, French, Japanese, and/or Spanish, included as loose files in the Misc files. Some are included in the Main files as well.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ****PLEASE READ****

Download the files for the main game like normal with the Nexus Mod manager. If done manually, put the Language Lover ba2 and esp (main files only) in your data folder. Done.

If you don't own all the DLCs with voice files, use the old file versions 1-2, but even if you use the 1-3 it shouldn't affect anything even if you don't have the DLCs.

Also, use Nexus Mod Manager to install any loose files in the Misc files section. Why did I use loose files? Few changes--that's why. ****In the future, I will make a collection of NPCs with different languages into a ba2, whenever I get to it or find the motivation.

Note on IMMERSION:

For a language enthusiast this might be very immersive. It is not, however, realistic. Your character is speaking another language that everyone else in the game understands regardless if they use the language themselves. All comments regarding the realistic nature of said alteration to voices in the game is irrelevant. I will ignore any and all comments stating the obvious.
However, I will respond to reasonable requests and ideas.

FAQ and Not FAQ:

Why doesn't the brotherhood speak German?
That is borderline racist. Don't ask. I will not indulge stereotypes or anything pertaining of that nature. That doesn't mean, however, that I won't indulge Anime common themes, such as robots speaking Japanese, within reason of course--because even that is a stereotype, although relatively harmless.

Can you make a patch for ____ unique companion mod?
I was thinking of making something for Ellen - the cartographer, better yet, Heather Casdin. But as I understand, translations are already under way, which would make it a lot easier for me if I were to get permission. This, of course, requires more work, especially if the mod continues to receive large updates.

Will you do a Spanish version?
I did initially, but as a matter of preference I discontinued the project. I wanted my character to speak Spanish I was more accustomed too, not Espana. It would be like playing the English version in British. This is neither good nor bad, it just is...and is of little consequence compared to bigger _____ missing in games. I plan on doing it anyways. Why not?

Can you make other languages like Russian, etc version of this?
I have had, in the past, trouble downloading certain languages from Steam; hopefully, it was a one time thing. ****Addendum: I will make a Japanese DlC version. LLX, the author of Turning Japanese has given the green light. Thank him/her, profusely with endorsements.  Japanese DLC finished, under optional files. *****2nd Addendum: I went ahead and did both the Main game and DLC Japanese version, since I figure others want a ba2 archive instead of loose files. **Final Addendum: Russian, Traditional Chinese, Portuguese, and Polish are subtitled only, unfortunately. There are no audio files.
