Like it says on the tin, this makes Nate available as a companion.

What this mod does:
  • adds Nate as a voiced companion
  • adds a recruitment quest
  • disables Nate’s corpse in Vault 111 after he’s up and about
  • allows Nate to teleport in and out of the Institute with the player
  • supports customised Nate; he’ll have whatever appearance you gave him in the chargen when you meet up with him again
  • fully implemented affinity (now including quest affinity) with conversations and an infatuation perk
  • plus four main quest-related conversations (after Kellogg's death, while building the teleporter, after meeting Father, and at the conclusion of the main questline)
  • adds conversation interjections for Nate (AdditionalDialogue.esp)
  • gives Nate dialogue in Getting a Clue, Reunions, Dangerous Minds, Institutionalised, The Nuclear Option and Nuclear Family (AdditionalDialogue.esp)
  • removes vanilla game references to Nate being dead, and for male PCs references to a wife have been changed to husband (AdditionalDialogue.esp)
  • adds custom affinity bumps in The Nuclear Option (AdditionalDialogue.esp)

What this mod doesn’t do:
  • gender lock Nate to a female player character (but be aware the male player character doesn't have audio)
  • add Nora as a companion

V1.3 changelog:

  • fixed an issue where Nate’s post-game conversation would trigger multiple times
  • added more environment idle remarks
  • changed the standalone compatibility version to a patch that requires the base DualSurvivors.esp
  • tweaked a line in Cold Calling if the player has already completed the main quest
  • added conversation interjections for Nate (AdditionalDialogue.esp)
  • tweaked dialogue so Nate is no longer referred to as dead and male PCs will refer to a husband instead of a wife (AdditionalDialogue.esp)

Notes:

After talking to Codsworth you can find Nate’s holotape on the kitchen counter. Reading any entry will trigger his quest. If you're using the compatibility version, it will spawn in your inventory when you enter Sanctuary Hills. If the holotape doesn't spawn, open the console and type ‘help nate 4’, find the NOTE Nate’s Journal and note its ID, then type ‘player.additem <holotape ID> 1’ (the ID changes between versions).

Affinity-wise, Nate likes being compassionate and helpful, sarcasm, modding weapons and armour, collecting comics, helping settlements, and healing Dogmeat (with Everyone’s Best Friend installed). He dislikes selfishness and rudeness, chem use, chem addiction, stealing, pickpocketing, picking owned locks, and refusing to help settlements. He hates murder and cannibalism. You can side with any faction without incurring disapproval.

If you're using a male player character, running an alternate start mod or have Sanctuary mods, I recommend downloading the compatibility patch. You don’t need to sexchange Nora for Nate to show up and he’ll have the default appearance. This version also doesn't disable your spouse’s corpse due to a conflict with Start Me Up.

To change Nate’s appearance (doesn't apply to the compatibility patch), you need to change the actor he’s templated from first. Open the console and type ‘player.placeatme 000A7D34’ (minus quotes). This will spawn the original Nate; click on him while still in the console to get his refID and type ‘slm <refID> 1’. Modify him as you please, then open up the console and type ‘disable’. Now click on companion Nate and type ‘slm <refID> 1’ (using companion Nate's refID, which changes between versions) and the changes will carry over.

Compatibility:
Any mods that modify Vault 111 run the risk of being incompatible with Dual Survivors. Some users still report problems with Start Me Up. Some users have also reported compatibility issues with Unlimited Companion Framework.

The AdditionalDialogue.esp modifies a large number of quests which may conflict with any mods that change the same quests. See the readme for the full list of modified quests.

There are also possible issues when completing In Sheep’s Clothing with Nate as the active companion when Diamond City settlement mods or other companion mods are active. If you have such mods, dismiss Nate to another settlement before starting the quest.
