About this mod

This mod adds two new craftable Mentats to help you track the living and the dead. You can also mix them to create a third one with both effects and increased detection area, or combine them with Purified Water and make healing drinks with the same effects.

AZRAEL'S BLOODLEAF & HUBFLOWER MENTATS
====================================

DESCRIPTION

Have you ever found yourself wasting too much time looking for the dead bodies that went flying after an unexpected explosion? Or looking for tiny pieces of bloatflies to loot? Or simply lost track of their positions in dark places? Who doesn't! Well, this mod adds to Fallout 4 two new types of homemade Mentats, craftable on any Chemistry Station: "Bloodleaf Mentats" and "Hubflower Mentats", that will help you track living and dead targets for you to kill, interact, or loot.

"Bloodleaf Mentats" are very similar to the Berry Mentants: They allow you to detect living targets (highlights the living), but the detection area of the Bloodleaf Mentats is a little bit wider (200), the color of the mist is red-orange like the color of the Bloodleafs, and they also increase Intelligence and Perception in +1. The effects last for 4 minutes and they don't produce addiction.

"Hubflower Mentats" allow you to detect dead targets (highlights dead bodies) using a blue-purple colored mist like the colors of the Hubflowers. The detection area is the same as the Bloodleaf Mentats. They also increase Intelligence and Perception in +1. The effects last for 4 minutes and they don't produce addiction.

Both, Bloodleaf and Hubflower Mentats, can be used at the same time. The effects can be combined without any conflicts.

In v1.1, I added a new type of Mentats that mixes both Mentats to produce a new one to get both effects in an even wider area of effect (300). These are called "Bloodleaf & Hubflower Mentats". They detect both living and dead targets (highlights living and dead bodies) at the same time, and increase Intelligence and Perception in +1. The effects last for 4 minutes and they don't produce addiction.

The effects duration from these Mentats can be increased if you have the "Chemist Perk".

In v1.2, there's the option to make those Mentats as a drink by dissolving them in Purified Water, for those that don't want to use chems (some companions dislike it when the player uses them), but want the living/dead detection effect, or just heal and also use those effects. To balance this, the Intelligence and Perception bonuses are lost in the process, but the healing effect of the Purified Water is kept. The effects last for 4 minutes and they don't produce addiction. Although, the Chemist Perk won't work with these drinks because they're food and not chems.

The mod is available in two different options: Loose Files, or packed in BA2-format.

HOW TO GET

The Mentats can be crafted in any Chemistry Stations, and the drinks in any Cooking Stations/Stoves. These are their recipes, and the units created for each one are in parenthesis:

- 1 Purified Water
- 1 Mentats

Hubflower Mentats (2)
- 1 Hubflower
- 1 Bone

Bloodleaf & Hubflower Mentats (3)

- 1 Acid
- 1 Bone
- 1 Purified Water
- 1 Bloodleaf Mentats
- 1 Hubflower Mentats

Bloodleaf Water (1)

- 1 Purified Water

Hubflower Water (1)

- 1 Purified Water

Bloodleaf & Hubflower Water (1)
- 1 Bloodleaf & Hubflower Mentats
- 1 Purified Water

OPTIONAL FILES

I made available optional colors for the living/dead mists. The colors are: White, Yellow, Green and the original Pink from the Berry Mentats. They require any of the main files (Loose Files or BA2) already installed. Pick your favorite combination, extract and overwrite in the "Data" folder of the game.

KNOWN ISSUES

The mist effect of the Hubflower Mentats doesn't work on NPCs that already appear dead AND they never were alive. The game considers these as objects/containers instead of NPCs that were at some point "active". These include dead people from random events and skeletons.

CONFLICTS

This mod only uses these vanilla resources from the game:
  - Meshes y textures from the Mentats and from the Purified Water.
  - Sounds for eating Mentats and drinking water.
  - The healing effect (4 HP per 10 seconds) from the Purified Water.
  - The texture "Effects\NoiseVeinPatternTile_d.DDS" for the skin effect when the mists are active.
Everything else is new and added to the game, so I don't think there would be any (important) conflict with other mods.
Also, there's no conflict with the vanilla mod "Targeting HUD" for the Power Armor helmets, or with the Berry Mentats.

ALTERNATIVE MODS

These are the alternative mods I found. If you like their ideas, please give them a visit and try them:

Targeting HUD and Berry Mentats Enhanced by Yukichigai: Too late I found about this mod when I already had finished v1.1. I would have used Yukichigai's mod instead and save time creating mine. Originally I thought that it was only for the Targeting HUD in the PA Helmets, and since I'm not a PA user, and actually don't like to use Power Armors, I went ahead and decided to make this mod as I wanted to be. Both mods are very similar, but there's also important differences:

- Yukichigai's handles and modifies both vanilla Berry Mentants and the Targeting HUD, and detects between living friendly/foes and the dead at the same time. And reading the posts, it seems it has a problem with Legendary Enemies? I'm not sure, I never used it.

- My mod is all about life & death, it doesn't detect friends or foes. Never modifies vanilla items, so the Berry Mentats are safe. Also, it does nothing to the PA Targeting HUD. It adds new items to the game that can be crafted and mixed together, so you can use items to detect only living and/or dead separately or at the same time, without having addiction to them, drinks included. Also, mine works fine with Legendary Enemies when they mutate (or don't). So far, it works fine with all enemies. I wanted something simple, craftable, and lore-friendly.

Loot Detector - Scrapper Corpse Highlighting by xatmos: It helps you detect dead bodies, but I never wanted to use it because I don't want to mess with the perks system.

Cannibalism - Detect Dead by alexbull_uk: I just found about this while creating this description. It looks like an interesting idea, but it works only for dead bodies and for players with the Cannibal Perk after eating them.

Craft able Power Armor Laser Scan Light by Densaleagion: I found this after posting mine. Is for Power Armor users. Has the option to use a detector of dead bodies using the helmet's light.

RECOMMENDED MODS

Plant Me by Ethreon: If you would like to have more Bloodleafs, Hubflowers, and Brain Fungus at hand, this mod is for you. It has a big selection of plants for you to plant in your settlements. Also includes pots and planters. Very helpful and complete.
