About this mod

For Gunslingers who want more variety. Any rifle with a pistol-grip will be governed by Gunslinger instead of Rifleman. Vanilla and/or Nukaworld compatible.

The why

I wanted to play a Gunslinger character, but was put off by the lack of variety in the sniping (and shotgun) department.
I found a mod that looked like it did what I wanted (Pistol-ized hunting rifle and double barrel shotgun by Ekayne-Charles Dyer). It was a sound concept but had a few unresolved bugs.
I instead decided to make my own from scratch.


The what

Putting a pistol-grip on any rifle that supports it (currently Hunting Rifle and Double-barreled Shotgun from vanilla Fallout 4 and Hand-made Rifle from the Nukaworld DLC) will switch that gun to using Gunslinger instead of Rifleman for all weapon-related perk effects.
Pistol-gripped weapons will be named [Type] Pistol (ie Handmade Pistol).
In third person, the character should be using pistol animations. Unfortuantely, this feature caused a bug where chambering another round or reloading became impossible after the first shot was fired. 1.1 reverts to vanilla (rifle) animations in third person to avoid this bug.


The how

I have simply added/removed/switched around a number of keywords based on how the Pipe weapons work (as they have this functionality already).
For the Hunting Rifle and Double-barreled Shotgun, the "weapontype: rifle" was removed from the "weapon" record and added to all rifle stock OMODs except the pistol-grip. The pistol-grip received the "weapontype: pistol" keyword as well as a few others pertaining to pistols.
For the Handmade Rifle little work was needed, as it was built like the pipe rifle already. Only the pistol-grip OMODs are edited.


Compatability

Anything that edits Weapon or Object Modification entries will be incompatible without patching. Luckily, patching this mod in FO4Edit is very easy.
Mod-added weapons will not be affected by this mod, but patches can be created.
This mod contains no scripts whatsoever.

Known issues

The hunting rifle with pistol-grip will be named "Hunting Rifle Pistol" by the game. I can't fix this without screwing up sorting mods.
In v1.0, Hunting Rifle and Double-barrel Shotgun were held like pistols in third-person view, but couldn't chamber a new round or reload after the first shot. Fixed in v1.1.
In v1.1, Hunting Rifle and Double-barrel Shotgun are held like rifles in first and third person view.


Installation

Download the files you want and install using NMM, or just extract to your data folder and activate in the launcher of your choice.


Uninstallation

Disable plugin in your mod manager of choice. Safe to install/uninstall during play. This mod is script-free.


Recommended mods

Realistic Guns and Bullets Overhaul - Weapon damage depends on ammunition type and barrel length, using real-life data.
Handmade Rifle Crafting Tweaks - Essential if you want to be able to mod the Handmade Rifle as a Gunslinger.
Legendary Modifier Rebalance - Contains an optional file for the Stalker Legendary effect that makes manual scoped sniping with pistol-gripped rifles feasible.
Legendary Modification - If you want to be able to attach the above-mentioned mod to your pistol without wasting your life grinding for it. Use the Survival variant if you want it to feel more legit.
Permissions
Anyone may port this mod and its patches to other platforms, under the condition that I be credited and the mod description links to this modpage. I do not have a Bethesda account and am unlikely to get one solely for porting mods.
