About this mod

Perishable Hazmat Suit makes it so that there is a small chance of damaging your hazmat suit while you are wearing it, if hit in combat. The script silently replaces it with the damaged suit, which is only half as effective. Conversely, the mod also gives you the ability to repair said damaged suits, if you possess the technical aptitude or requisi

Another irritation in the line of "things that mildly annoy me but are relatively easy to fix," I've always felt that, now that the Repair mechanic has been shunted off to Power Armor exclusively, that the Hazmat Suit was a little overpowered. As soon as the player finds one meager suit, they never have to worry about Rad-X or Rad-Away again, as long as they're willing to give up a minimum of five pounds of carry weight and a favorites slot, at which point they have access to a perfect, invincible, and unlimited shield against radiation for the rest of the game.

So I decided to make use of the under-utilized Damaged Radiation Suit armor item and balance things out a bit. Perishable Hazmat Suits adds a lightweight quest script that "listens" for when the player equips a Hazmat suit; when the player does so, it will roll the dice whenever they get hit. There is a 20% chance (reduced 1% by each point of Agility, to a minimum of 1%) that any hit will damage the suit, immediately replacing it with a Damaged Hazmat Suit, which is only half as effective.

Assuming the worst should happen, don't fret! Any Damaged Hazmat Suit can be repaired at a Chemistry Station using lead, plastic, adhesive and rubber, as long as the player has the necessary science skills (i.e. Science 1), or an instruction manual which can be acquired in the ruins of the Cambridge Science Center.

The mod should be compatible with any other mod that directly modifies the records for the Hazmat Suits as long as it doesn't remove them. I'm not sure how the mod will interact with Hazmat Suit Variants but chances are good that it will swap default-colored damaged and repaired Hazmat suits in. I'll do some research and see if I can't make a compatibility patch at a later point.
