About this mod

Makes cigarettes and cigars into usable chems that you can see on the player model while the chem effect lasts. Also triggers an autosave in Survival mode.

Permissions and credits

I am a huge fan of the Fallout: New Vegas mod
Light Up and Smoke Those Cigarettes.  After waiting for quite some time to see something similar pop up for Fallout 4, I decided to take matters into my own hands!

This mod simply replaces all Cigarette and Cigar products with usable versions when the player picks them up (they still show up as junk in the world and in vendor inventories unless you sell the usable versions).  Cigarettes and Cigars have been given chem properties, including buffs and addictions, as follows:

+1 Perception (you're more relaxed!)
+1 Charisma (you look sexy!)
Autosave (this is only triggered when in Survival mode)

In addition, the player is equipped with a visible cigar or cigarette in the mouth slot for the chem effect's duration!  This item will automatically disappear at the conclusion of the effect, unless it is sold or placed in a container.  Note:  This is NOT the equippable cigarette or cigar provided by the CigaretteInMouth mod.  It simply uses the same model.  So any items crafted from that mod will remain safely in your inventory at the conclusion of the effect!

UPDATES:

  • V1.3 - Fixed erroneous "Autosaving" message when used from Pip Boy Menu directly.  Now attempts to save only when the item is used from a quickslot.

  • V1.2 - Fixed chem effect duplication.  Added optional variant download for the "Bent" cigarette model.

  • V1.1 - Added sale values to the replaced items, something I had initially forgotten.

Installation:

Copy the files into your Fallout 4 Data directory.  It's not complicated, there's only one .ESP and 3 scripts!

Known Issues:

  • The Cigar and Cigarette chems can both be active at the same time.
Figured out how to do this from the Alcohol items.
  • The Autosave occasionally does not happen immediately or at all.
Turns out this is simply because the Autosave cannot be triggered from the menu.  The chem must be set to a quickslot in order for Autosave to work.  This seems incredibly obvious now that I have realized it.

Credits:

This mod is made possible by the excellent CigaretteInMouth mod, which contains the cigarette and cigar models that my mod references!

Also, thanks to Flipdeezy, whose Smokable Cigars and Cigarettes was an inspiration and an invaluable resource in figuring out how to do things with the Creation Kit!  Anyone who wants a smoking mod with animations should check it out!
