IMMERSIVE WATER PURIFICATION

Update:  Added new meshes for the radiation removal stations.  Crafting of clean water can now be done at the radiation removal stations.  Added water buckets to all pumps and purifiers, no more pumping water into the dirt. Water purification stations can now be used to fill empty water bottles with clean water.  (and regular pumps fill bottles with dirty water).  Cleaned things up a bit.  Added Wasteland Workshop dlc water pump.

Special thanks to FLipdeezy for letting me use his meshes and for almost all of the changes that were made in this update.  If you like the water cleaning stations but don't want all the other HC stuff, check out Flipdeezy's water purification stations.

Special thanks to mmdestiny for the letting me merge his Waterpump with Buckets mod into this one.

Immersive Water Purification is a complete overhaul of radiated drinking water in Fallout 4.   The goal of this mod is to make obtaining clean water more of a challenge, both for you and for your settlements.  In the early game, clean water will be more difficult to craft and settlements will struggle to produce clean drinking water for themselves.  You can no longer satisfy your settlements’ water need by plopping down a few water pumps. You must now assign settlers to produce clean water themselves, which means less manpower available for other job assignments.  You can also help settlements by scavenging for clean water yourself and stocking up the workstations manually.   But it won't be easy!   Clean water is a precious commodity and crafting it is no longer a simple matter of "boiling away" the radiation at cooking station. The wasteland is indeed a harsh and unforgiving place.

But all hope is not lost!  Scattered throughout the wasteland are rare and amazing pieces of pre-war technology.  The Water Chip.  Rumor has it, they were used by the old vaults.  Once you obtain a few of these, you'll be able to craft water purifiers which can provide fresh, clean water for everyone.

What this mod does, specifically:

Water production in settlements is now similar to food production.  You must assign settlers to work at a new station called the "radiation removal station”.  This change has drastic impacts on what settlements can produce.  In the early game, you’d have to assign almost all of your settlers to cleaning water in order to get 100% water need satisfaction. (either that or manually stock the workbench with water.)

There are two tiers of the radiation removal station. The first tier is very inefficient but easy for new players to craft.  The advanced tier produces twice as much water, making life much easier.  You can also use Radiation Removal Stations to craft clean water yourself.

Settlements are now more picky about what they drink.  You cannot satisfy a settlement’s water need by placing dirty water in the workbench, it has to be purified water.

Automated water purifiers are the ultimate goal.  They now require a rare water chip to build and the crafting requirements have been rebalanced.  The water produced from water purifiers has also been re balanced.  There are two tiers (the same two as in vanilla)  The basic water purifier produces 15 water .  The industrial version produces 100 water.  Setting up a single industrial water purifier might just be enough to supply the entire wasteland via trade routes.  To get the most out of water purifiers, I recommend also installing Uncapped Settlement Surplus by IDontEvenKnow.

Water chips can be found in the world but they are rare.  New characters should check out the Overseer’s terminal in vault 111 for a clue leading to the first one. Finding a water chip and using it to build a water purifier can be a huge boon to a settlement. The more water chips you find, the more water purifiers you can build and the more settlements get to enjoy automatic free, clean water.  Water chips can also be crafted with advanced nuclear physicists and science perks, don’t expect to be able to do this until well into the game. You can also repair broken water chips with medium level perks. Finally, if you have the fortune finder perk, there is a very small chance you might find one at random.

Basic water pumps now produce only dirty water.  So they are basically worthless to settlements, although the can be used to fill water bottles with dirty water.

The value of dirty water is reduced to 1 cap.  Dirty water also no longer provides any healing.

Crafting water by the player now requires cloth and antiseptic.  It has been moved to the new radiation removal stations.

Radiation from dirty water that you drink is reduced by 50%.

IInstallation:

Download and install with your favorite mod manager.

Compatibility:

It's a pretty light mod and should be compatible with most mods.  If another mod makes changes related to water, dirty, water, or the production of water, there might be some conflicts.  It does conflict with Give Me that Bottle, which is why I've made a compatibility patch for it in the optional files. :)  If you use this patch, the other optional files (vanilla water crafting, no water crafting) won't work.  Compatible with all dlc's but if you have Wasteland Workshop dlc, there's a compatibility patch under optional files which is essential.

Special Request:

If you happen to discover the location of one of my hidden water chips, please do not post anything about it here.  Thanks :)

Here are a few mods I recommend for even more of a hard-core experience.

Hardcore Food (by me, this was made to be a companion mod to Immersive Water Purification)
Sleep Doesn't Heal (by me)
Food Don't Heal (by PaddyGarcia)
Wasteland Wound Care (by PaddyGarcia)
Fallout 4 Loot Overhaul (by Darthsith) (I plan on making a customized version of this in the near future)
No Stim for You (by me)
Fallout 2287, Gas Masks of the Wasteland, by D1v1ne122 (and a tiny bit of help by me :) )

Todo list:

It's pretty much finished at this point.  Only thing left really is to add more interesting ways of obtaining water chips.  Finding them is nice.  But it seems more fun finding clues which lead to them. I've never actually finished a FO4 game, so if anyone has some lore-friendly, creative ideas for places to hide water chips, please let me know and I can incorporate them into the game.

I plan on making a Hardcore Overhaul Mod, which will combine several of the mods listed above for a total HC experience.

Special Credits:

I give credit to ludvig08.  I used his awesome mod Northland Diggers Resources as a template to set up the water cleaning station.

Credit goes to FLipdeezy for the workbench meshes and making significant improvements to the mod.

Credit goes to mmdestiny for letting me use his waterpump with buckets mod.
