About this mod

Adds an STG 44 assault rifle to the game.

Permissions and credits
STG 44

The game does not have an assault rifle in vanilla, because despite what Bethesda thinks, we can't call that heavy Vickers machine gun looking thing an assault rifle.

In keeping with the games old time war like themes, I present you with the Sturmgewehr 44, the worlds first definitive assault rifle.
This weapon was developed by Germany in WWII and was a quick favorite of infantry.

This is my first mod and has taken some time, and improvements will take even more, please be patient.  There are still many flaws present and the texturing/model is always improving.  Please point out any bugs you notice.

There are three different versions in game:
  • 1st person combat rifle is set up so the animations and sights are in position for first person and uses the combat rifle animations.
  • 3rd person combat rifle also uses the combat rifle animations but is positioned to look like its held properly (not much I can do about the front hand).
  • The SMG version uses the submachinegun animations.  There is no 1st and 3rd person version of this because it looked the same for both.

Installation.

The normal manual way.  By copying the files into the data folder found in the games root directory.

Your Fallout4Custom.ini (located in "Users\"your account"\Documents\My Games\Fallout4") file will also need these lines added to it or the weapon will be invisible:

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

All three versions will be found outside vault 111 leaning against some blue boxes as shown in the last picture.

It can be added to your inventory through console commands.

Console Commands:

help stg 0 weap

player.additem xxxxxxxx 1 0          (xxxxxxxx is whatever showed up for the help command)

Thanks for all the comments so far.

Update 0.2:
  • Added to the world outside vault 111.
  • Proper UV unwrap.
  • Textures (normal and diffuse) baked from high poly.  AO baked into diffuse map.
  • Three versions based on viewpoint and animations.
  • Lined up mesh for the sights.
  • Changed the camera position for FPV.  It's a bit closer to the sights now.
  • The model is a bit high poly, apologies for any lag, this will be fixed in future updates.

Update 0.15:
  • Unlike last time, the mesh has more polygons than the US department of Defense.
  • Reciever has some detail in the mesh added so it is not two flat surfaces on the sides.
  • The barrel and magazine have less curved surfaces.
  • Ring added to front sight.
  • Texture updated (thanks to Heffy for pointing in the right direction.).  It's no longer an image slapped onto a flat surface.  Normals map and AO map baked from high poly version.
  • UV unwrap was done by 3ds max inbuilt function and the projection cage for baking maps was done quickly,  so seams and other effects will be present.  This also caused the red parts, but with a little imagination they become the remains of a raider that was dispatched a bit too close instead.
  • removed the change of 5.56 ammo to 7.92x33.
  • The rear sight is no longer a monstrous amalgamation that somehow had a failed ejection port cover mixed into it.

To Do:

Model
  • Lower the poly count.
  • Make that ejection port cover.
Textures:
  • Way too shiny.  Make spec maps.
  • Fix the black areas.

Lore:
There are some good ideas in the comments. Credit to: NAMENOTFOUND, NarcGamer
  • Was thinking because its such a rare firearm there could be a Nazi memorabilia collector who had this stashed with some other things in a basement somewhere.
  • Could be the modern replica version.  Might make ammunition easier to explain.
  • The idea where it goes from a junk version to the original.  Could start off as old rusted parts that were dug up and it is restored to original through mods.
Other:
  • Take away the users telepathic capabilities, he needs to hold the weapon just like everyone else.  Just downloaded Outfit Studio, will take time to work out.
  • Make mods for it.  Scopes barrels etc.  Would like to keep the original look as much as possible, might make the original look be best set of mods possible.  Prototype atachments Enijasha suggested.
  • Balance the weapon.
  • Work out how to make a ba2 file.

This weapon was designed by Germany WWII and so fits with the uniforms, I will not be engaging in any political discussions.  If you don't like it, there is plenty more to find on the nexus that will be more to your preference.
