Update:
NEW -- Fixed an issue where updating from an old version would break the mod.
Safes no longer say empty until you've unlocked them.
Caches of Unique and Rare items have been added.

It just makes no sense there is such a huge abundance of resources in the game. Am I supposed to believe after so many years scavengers still failed to find all this? I think not.
The economy is way too wealthy and everyone can afford weapons? Nope, sorry. Try again. It's more believable that this character who wants to make it in a harsh environment has to make do with scraps he has to build up settlements in order to get a production line going.

What is effected:
  • All NPC's except Gunners, BoS, Institute have a 90% chance to have nothing except a melee weapon and a few bits of awful armor.
  • Bobby Pins now only count somewhere between and 40-110 in the game.
  • Containers have been reduced to 10% of containing each item
  • Water Production has been reduced to prevent farming for caps.
  • Spawn Rates of cleared cells have been increased after level 40 or 50 depending what difficulty, this offsets the reduction for late game. To activate this simply read the Mercenary Bible.

This mod does not touch any of the objects placed in the world, only loot lists.

So, why do this? This mod creates a more realistic approach to the apocalypse by reducing abundance. It also creates a much more visible gap in difficulty from the ease at the start, fighting mostly melee weapon wielding enemies up until end game where it's going to be hard to get ammo or caps. I increased spawn rates in order to offset this for late game settlement building.

It finally puts the following aspects of the game into "necessary" territory:

  • Scrounger
  • Cap Collector
  • Fortune Finder
  • Local Leader
  • It's worth building the scavenging stations.
Finally these aspects are actually going to have an effect rather than, nice things to make life easy.

Note: This mod was created using the Make It A Custom utility framework.
