Did you ever wish there was a way to reclaim the power armor frames from you fallen enemies, even if they didn't spawn in it?  Or maybe you wanted to kill that wastelander that made off with your suit of power armor, but didn't want to destroy the frame.  Well, now you can!  Now you'll be able to salvage the power armor frame from ANY dead NPC, whether they spawned in that armor or not.

Description:

This mod adds "Salvaged Power Armor Components" (and a few random gears and screws) to any NPC that dies while wearing power armor.  These can then be used to reconstruct a power armor frame at any settlement (found under "Special", requires 'Armorer 2').  To avoid cluttering the menu, the power armor frame will not be visible unless you have some power armor components in your inventory.  As an added bonus, you'll also be able to find a "Damaged Fusion Core" along with the other components (as long as the suit had a core) which can be scrapped for nuclear material and some other bits.

Also included is a harder recipes version, hardcore mode and various patches.  The Harder Recipes version adds more and rarer component requirements for the frames.  "Hardcore" mode (why did I name it that?) makes the number of Salvaged Components found on dead NPCs random, with a chance for an extra component (NPCs drop 2-7 instead of always 6).  This can be combined with, and does not include the Harder Recipes Version.

There are patches are for Buildable Power Armor Frames and Move Store and Assign Settlers to Power Armor.  Both patches remove this mod's PA Frame entry from the workshop, and instead adds a recipe at the Chem Station for the respective mod's frame item.  This patch is needed as Fallout 4 doesn't like having multiple workshop entries for the same thing (see Bugs/Issues for more info).  Load this mod before the other PA Frame mod and put the patch after both.  (Both patches also available as a single "mod + patch" esp for those with lots of mods.)

Note: Unlike most (all?) other mods that perform a similar function, this works on ANY NPC, including those from mods (like Power Armor Autopilot*), those that entered power armor after spawning and everyone in between.  Additionally, these components can't be obtained until the NPC is dead, and will not be added to any NPC that has died after exiting their power armor.

*Power armor followers created before this mod was added will need to be rebooted (remove/replace core) before they will drop components on death.  However, any other NPC that spawned/entered before this mod was installed should drop components as expected.  Go figure.

Requirements:

  • A working copy of Fallout 4
  • The ability to install mods

Installation:

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)-
  • Select "Download with Manager" and NMM should open.
  • Go to the "Mods" tab if not there already, select 'Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames' and press activate.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to choose your desired version.
  • Go to the "Plugins" tab and make sure that the plugins of your choice are activated.
  • Start game and enjoy.

Manual-
  • Extract the contents of the 'Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames.zip' to your Fallout 4 Data directory (usually C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 4\data\).
  • Active mod using you preferred method (plugins.txt, mod manager, etc.).
  • Start game and enjoy.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to enable mods as described Here.

Warning: Do not change the name of the main esp.  The script relies on it being called "Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames.esp".  If you do, it won't be able to add the salvaged components (aka the whole point of the mod).

Uninstallation:

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)-
  • Launch NMM and select the "Mods" tab.
  • Select 'Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames' and press "Deactivate".
  • All done.

Manual-
  • Delete the 'Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames.esp' and any other installed .eps's from Data and PowerArmorNPCCoreDestroyScript.pex from scripts.
  • All done.

Compatibility:

This mod is incompatible with any mods that alter the "PowerArmorNPCCoreDestroyScript" script.  This mod also edits the power armor frame "PowerArmorFrameFurnitureNoCore", but only so it has an icon in the workshop menu.  If some other mod edits the same thing, just load it after this one.

Known Bugs/Issues:

  • It may take a few seconds for the items to show up after the NPC dies.  Pretend it takes a moment to scavenge the parts.

  • The visibility of workshop items is only updated on leaving/entering workshop mode (it's a vanilla issue).  You need the salvaged components in your inventory prior to opening the workshop for the frames to show up, and need to re-open the workshop after you run out of components for the frame entry to go away.  You can blame Bethesda for that.

  • If another mod adds a workshop entry for "PowerArmorFrameFurnitureNoCore", one or more of those entries won't show the components needed to craft them if you have all the components.  If you're missing some components, then it will show.  Again, you can blame Bethesda for that.

This mod was created with FO4Edit 3.1.3 and Caprica 0.2.0.

The HUD in the last screenshot is something I made for my own use, but I can release it if people want.
