This mod adds craftable vaults to the game. Each settlement will have its own interior vault, that can be reached trough a craftable load door. Once in the vault you find yourself in a premade entrance area, with an open door leading to nowhere. This is where you start constructing your own personal vault. This mod offers the following caraftable objects:

  • Small hallways  (Structures => Vault=> Small Halls)
  • Large hallways  (Structures => Vault=> Large Halls)
  • Small rooms  (Structures => Vault=> Small Rooms)
  • Large rooms  (Structures => Vault => Large Rooms)
  • Elevators  (Structures => Vault => Elevators)
  • Sliding vault doors  (Structures => Vault => Doors)
  • Windows  (Structures => Vault => Misc)
  • Doorsigns  (Structures => Vault => Doorsigns)
  • Power generating connectors  (Electricity => Generators)
  • Vault entrance  (Special)

The new objects are only available when you are inside the vault, so they will not clutter up your menu when you are outside.

The segments only snap with segments of the same category and doorways. So if you are wondering how to make a transition from a small hallway to a room: Use a doorway. Don't worry if you fall out of the map during the building process (which will happen often). The game engine will detect this and teleport you back after a few seconds.

To get into the vault you have to craft two objects that can both be found in the "Special" category: First craft the frame. It can be snapped to balcony and floor snap points. Then craft the vault elevator and snap it to the frame. The elevator only snaps in 90° intervals, so you may have to rotate it a bit. You can then enter the vault by activating the vault elevator. These two objects are limited to one per settlement each, so if you scrap them you have to exit and reenter workshop mode to make them visible again.

If you want to move settlers into the vault, you have to assign them to the vault elevator while in workshop mode. After a few seconds they will disappear and be teleported into the vault. If you want to move them out again just assign them to the inside elevator. Please note that there are a few issues with settlers that can happen with older savegames. See known issues below for more details.

  • Uninstalling version 1.4 may cause the structures menu to disappear. See "How to uninstall" below for details.
  • Sometimes the collision does not update correctly after placing a vault segment. You may teleport, find invisible walls or fall through the ground then. A quick reload (f5 => f9) will fix this issue. Nothing more I can do about that.
  • Some of the edited meshes (and also most of the vanilla ones!!!) do not have a 100% matching collision.
  • Sometimes settlers cannot be assigned to resource objects inside of the vaults. This is most probably caused by some savegame issue. The only fix I know of is starting a new game.
  • The automatic door gets confused if you or an NPC activates it while it is animating. In that case you have to scrap it and build a new one.
  • In rare cases it can happen, that a dialog pops up telling you saved while a elevator was moving, when you didn't. I had this issue once when testing and have no idea what causes this.

  • Extract the downloaded zip file.
  • Copy contents into the Data folder inside your Fallout 4 installation directory.
  • Activate BuildYourOwnVault.esp with your favorite mod manager.

This is important. Since version 1.4 this mods adds new categories to the workshop menu using scripts. If you disable this mod without following these steps you risk to permanently loose the Structures menu. If you are using version 1.4 you have to update to 1.5 first, as 1.4 does not support uninstalling.

The script works like this: You enter the vault and it adds the new category. Whenever you leave the vault using the elevator (not fast travel!) the script will remove the custom category again. You can safely uninstall this mod when you are outside after using the elevator.

  • Enter the vault.
  • Use the elevator to exit the vault again. (don't use fast travel!).
  • Backup your save when you are outside .
  • Now you can disable the mod.
  • Load your save and check if all menu categories still show up.

The uninstalling process will only work when the Structures menu is still showing up. If you ran into this bug and saved your game afterwards you can try using this fixer file. Note that uninstalling mods is usually a bad idea and can seriously mess up your savegame.
