Description:

This is a modder's resource. As such, novice to average users aren't expected to know exactly how this works. I will try to answer questions as best I can, but don't feel frustrated if you cannot get this to work! It is meant for more advanced users and/or modders to make use of.

Included are the meshes and textures that you will need, but remember, you can edit these to your liking if you have the knowledge to do so. The glowmap textures are especially generic and mostly placeholders--they will work, but aren't anything terribly fancy. I know this and it is intentional since this is but a resource to show others how this works, so please don't contact me asking why the included textures aren't that great--they aren't supposed to be! It's assumed that you will provide your own unique glowmaps. Only the meshes are meant to be used as-is and even those can be customized if you so like (example: to change the emissive colour or the location of the glowmaps).

As far as I know, currently there isn't any way to include multiple glowmap solutions for a single race's eyes as you could with Oblivion due to the fact that glowmaps must be indicated in the NIF. Only with Texture Sets can such a thing be done and eye meshes do not allow for these. The eye texture selections themselves likewise do not allow for glowmap selection. I'm sure there's probably a way for this to be done with FOSE, but that isn't within the scope of this resource.

Those glowmaps that are included are the following:
eye_g.dds - This is the default glowmap for all human eyes. It only makes the iris glow.
eyeghoul_g.dds - This is the default glowmap for Ghoul's eyes. It makes the entire iris-pupil-less section glow.

All of the eye meshes are set to a white emessive colour with a multiplier of 1 and include all tri, egm, and egt files required.

Instructions:

Place the included Meshes and Textures directories into your Fallout 3/Data directory, where you normally install mods into.

You will need to make a custom race if you do not want all members of your selected race to have glowing eyes. I highly recommend making a custom race no matter what.

Load the G.E.C.K with Fallout3.esm selected and nothing else. If you are using a custom race already, then simply load the esp for that race as the Active File instead.

Open the Race Window by going to Character in the Menu Bar, then selecting Race...

- Creating a custom race with glowing eyes:
1. Select the race you're wanting to use. For this, I'm selecting Asian, but you can choose any race you like.
2. Right-click the race, and select "Duplicate". This will make a new entry called AsianCOPY0000
3. Select AsianCOPY0000 and select the Face Data tab.
4. By default, Male editing is selected, if you wish to edit the Female entries, then at the bottom next to the Cancel button is the Editing selection. Check Female. You can also edit both if you like.
5. The entries here you want to change are the Eyes (L/R) entries, which are at the bottom of the list. The eyes are the only entries in this tab that do not have a texture and instead the entry under texture is actually the Right eye entry; the Left eye is in the Model column. Fill in the entries with the \Characters\Eyes\GlowingEyes meshes for left and right (eyelefthuman/eyerighthuman: male; eyelefthumanfemale/eyerighthumanefmale: female).
6. Under the Text Data tab, you'll probably want to change the Name of the race so you know which is your new race with the glowing eyes when selecting the race in the Race Menu in game. For example, I might name mine "Glowing Eyes Asian".

- Editing a pre-existing custom race to have glowing eyes:
1. Select your custom race and select the Face Data tab.
2. By default, Male editing is selected, if you wish to edit the Female entries, then at the bottom next to the Cancel button is the Editing selection. Check Female. You can also edit both if you like.
3. The entries here you want to change are the Eyes (L/R) entries, which are at the bottom of the list. The eyes are the only entries in this tab that do not have a texture and instead the entry under texture is actually the Right eye entry; the Left eye is in the Model column. Fill in the entries with the \Characters\Eyes\GlowingEyes meshes for left and right (eyelefthuman/eyerighthuman: male; eyelefthumanfemale/eyerighthumanefmale: female).\

After you've finished editing the Race entries, click the OK button.

Go to File, Save...

- If you created a custom race, you'll want to think of an esp name to use for your custom race mod. For my example, I'm going to name mine "kikaiFlowingEyesAsian.esp". After you save, open the File, Data dialogue and click on your new ESP, which should now be set as the Active File. Click "Details" and select any race entries in the file that are NOT the one you just added. In my ESP, I had AfricanAmerican and Asian. After selecting these, hit the Delete Key to mark them as Ignored. Click Close and then OK to reload your ESP into the GECK. Immediately save the file again. This will make sure that there are no bogus race entries in your file.

- If you edited an alredy-existing custom race, then you should be able to just save the file normally.

To use in game:

- If you created your own custom race, you will need to open the console and type "ShowRaceMenu" to change your race to the new one. Note that this will RESET YOUR CHARACTER'S FACE TO DEFAULT. It's highly recommended to do this with a new character unless you know how to exchange the face using a FaceGen exchanging program to put your old face back in.

- If you used a pre-existing custom race mod, it should immediately work.
