Tools to test installs for FO3 on modern systems, and for testing mods in general.
Targeted at the DRM-free GOTY version now on Steam.
As these are being made, I am also working on a 10th Anniversary Overhaul [10thAn] which will cover a consolidated process for implementing Kelmych's guideon the STEP-project.

The first set will be assets designed to track down causes of CTDs.
The first of these is a texture set made to help identify whether slowdowns/crashes are due to texture sizes.

To be posted in a couple days, once I'm sure it doesn't cause any crashes itself.

Target final release date of all planned tools is January 2018.
Target final release date for the 10th Anniversary Overhaul [10thAn] is October 2018 (the 10th anniversary of Fallout 3's first release).

Current Assets:
(1) Fallout 3 GOTY Optimized Vanilla Textures 32pixel

All vanilla textures for FO3 and all DLC's, processed through DDSopt recommended settings from STEP-project then reduced to maximum 32pixel resolution.
These are ugly, but very useful in identifying whether slowdowns or crashes are due to textures being too large (not enough video RAM) or texture compression harming performance.
Load this last in Mod Organizer to test for texture related problems.
This only replaces vanilla GOTY textures considered optimizable by the STEP-project guide.
Vanilla textures were unpacked from all GOTY BSA files, sorted using DDSopt "2_Fallout_Pre-optimization_2.8.bat", then processed, reduced, and recombined.
These are all uncompressed or compressed with fast lossless compression, to minimize both RAM usage and processing.
See STEP-project Guide:DDSopt/Fallout for details.
(All of these textures are modified from Bethesda assets, and thus may be used freely for all Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas mods.)

Future Assets:
-- Reduced Model Meshes with minimal surfaces and nodes, to identify performance/stability problems due to excessive polygon count or effects (e.g. glowing, animation, etc).
-- Simplified Animation Meshes, same purpose as above.
-- Sound and music converted to WAV and reduced sampling, to identify crashes due to memory issues and performance loss due to MP3 or OGG compression.
-- Modified scripts which log debugging information.

Why make this now?

I bought the DRM-free FO3 GOTY early 2017.
It took me two weeks just to get to the start screen without crashing.
FO3 is notorious in every way, and only playable due to an amazing player community.
So I'm making these to help others get their installs working and revive a game that, for all intents and purposes, was made good by this community.
