I love the immersive experience that DC Subway and DC Subway - Metros Alive bring to the Capitol Wasteland, but subways run on tickets, and although the DC Metro Authority doesn't exist anymore, I decided to give those tickets more of a use than stopping Protectrons from opening fire. Now, each trip will require a metro ticket, except on Sundays, because as we all remember, "Everyone rides free on Sundays!"
Ticket Prices
- Tickets can be purchased with pre-war money or bottle caps at terminals located in DC Subway terminals. Metro ticket prices have been calculated using the following tedious math:
- According to the loading slides, an issue of the Capitol Post cost $56.00 shortly before the bombs dropped. The upper cost for a newspaper is approximately $2.00 in 2017, which an inflation of 2700%. The average cost for a ticket from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is $2.68, which in 2077 would cost $72.36, which I rounded up to $73.00.
- A stack of pre-war money in the vanilla game is wrapped with a blue strap, which according to the ABA Standard indicates a stack of $1.00 bills amounting to $100.00. However, considering that a newspaper cost $56.00, its unlikely that people carried stacks of such a small denomination. With that in mind, I evaluated a stack of pre-war bills to be a stack of $10.00 bills amounting to $1000.00. So, one in-game unit of pre-war money pays for 14 tickets (Yes, you get a discount).
- The price I found per bottle cap online amounted to a maximum of $0.07. Yes, yes, I know, Nuka-Cola didn't need to pay this much for them, I get it. Running this number for inflation at 2700% brings the value of a cap in 2077 to $1.89. Therefore, approximately 39 caps buys one metro ticket.
The DC Metro Recycling Program
- Due to the resource wars, waste reclamation programs began to creep into every aspect of American life. The DC Metro decided to start a program to accept bottle caps in trade for metro tickets. The DC Metro Ticketing terminals allow players to trade caps for one, two, five, or ten tickets.
