About this mod

Exactly that! Ammo has weight, takes space in your inventory and the weights are displayed in UI similar to Ammo on Hardcore mode in NV.

Hello

IM breaking off another piece of my mod again for you guys since is a handy thing some people might enjoy this for more realism immersion harder game more fun times etc etc

Again, very basic minimal mod. Does one thing. Makes ammo take space in your inventory as well as displays the individual ammo weight in the UI under Weight section like any other item in the game. When you load this mod it just stars working there are no menus no options to set nothing.

In the screenshots you see 90 x 10mm at 0.03 each that's actually 2.7 but my weight goes up/down by 2 because final value is rounded down .

Weights are displayed in container interface, barter interface and pipboy inventory interface but not in world game 2 box interface in the middle cause I just never modified that.

I tested the standalone version for me it worked fine, the component in the original mod works fine as well. If you having any problems please let me know I probably forgot to include something but hopefully is all good and I copied it right.

A WORD OF CAUTION This mod will reset your container menu, inventory menu, and barter menu to vanilla. This mod only works with vanilla menus. Do not install if you don't want this!

In order for this mod to work and work properly  you need:

1. FOSE

2. Use default vanilla UI. Can be made to work on other UIs but someone needs to spend time doing it. I like it simple I go for as basic/default as possible never bothered with fancy UIs.

3. Do not use mods that modify vanilla Ammo in any way. Well. This can be easily fixed. The mod changes the icons for ammo types to lower down in the resource tree. What it does it it uses the path to count how many letters are in the path and figure out what type of ammo the mouse is pointing at. The weirdest thing but it works. In order to have this be compatible with other mods like FOOK or FWE  someone needs to make it CALIBR compatible and add the other CALIBR ammos in the calculation/display logic. Too much trouble for me I don't care. Im happy with default stuff. Which brings me to part 2

You're welcome to modify this any way you want include it anywhere as long as you credit Darn and   OnmyojiOmn as they both seem to have worked on the ui displaying part. You don't need to credit it me. Is all up to you really.  But make sure if you do anything with this credit those 2 people . Thanks.

Credits and History of this component/mod:
Ammo weights has been a subject of much hard work and trouble for a lot of people and has been back in the day and a highly requested mod.  The most functional one is in FWE I believe but it doesn't display the weights in the UI and instead modifies the name of each weight type. No biggie for some but for me  I wanted to see if is possible to do it the proper way. I looked on nexus and lo and behold there was one attempt long time ago only displays weights visually while using Darned UI but doesn't actually have any logic behind to calculate the ammo weight affecting your inventory. So I took that mod called Displayed Ammo Weights by OnmyojiOmn and adapted it to work on vanilla UI instead and added all the logic to calculate inventory weights myself. According to the mod page is all free for anyone to do anything with it .

Technical mumbo jumbo.  Read this if you care maintaing it it working or you wanna learn to modify it:

The UI displaying logic is on very small timer like 0.05 / sec . The weight modifying calculations are on a 1 sec timer. So you may notice weight not going down RIGHT AWAY. 1 sec tho is not that long. Due to an engine limitation the container menu does not refresh weight until sometimes is moved back and forth so since weight changes AFTER to move the ammo total weight in your inventory is not updated until you move something else . Even if it was on 0.000001 / s cooldown it would still happen after the action and the engine would not visually update it . But the inventory visually updates all the time things change so it works. I think this only affects barter and container menus.

This mod is very very tricky and Im surprised it even works. Is so finicky probably any mod can break it just by changing either any other ui xml, a prefab or changing ammo elements or even the armor token im using to calculate the weight is mounted on Body Addon 3 so anything that would take that slot also would break the mod. Is a huge complex hack. So yeah. Good luck!  I will answer any questions I got .  But if you do it right it looks and feels 90% like NV hardcore .

When you load the mod 2 quests start right away they are set to start with game start. One quest is low cd updates weight the other is high refresh updates UI. As I mentioned. The one that updates the weight also adds an armor token which has dynamic weight changing mechanism mounted as Body Addon 3. The reason this is necessary is cause FO3 is dumb and simple things just can't be done . Everything good is more or less a hack. So the point is this thing is being equipped and unequipped whenever your ammo ammount changes and or every 1 sec or so . So you may notice the mounting unmounting sound sometimes but is very quiet no trouble for me is better it kinda lets me know I lost some weight .
Techniacl mumbo jumbo END

The mod is part of my CB Custom Beginning mod but I decided to release it separately as a standalone mod may be useful to some.
