About this mod

This mod started as a remake of Alt Start but since then has turned into a so much more. It mostly focuses on playing as a different character other than vault dweller, on immersion, on Fallout canon and balancing the game a bit but also includes some wacky things I been experimenting with (nothing too crazy or overpowering).

WHAT IS CB 

CB started as a remake of AltStart mod but as of right now is more of a lightweight "big mod" having a lot of enhancements and options that AltStart never had.

If you don't know , Alt Start  was a mod that allowed you to be play as various histories for example Slave or Doctor and so on. Is still found on Nexus however the newest version is only found in FWE and only works with FWE.

Why remake it? Because trying to improve on FWE's Alt Start I realized FWE is too big and complicated for me to figure out how everything was done  . Would be easier to make a clone of it from scratch. I  wanted to aim for something lighter with less menu clutter and as close to Fallout canon as possible especially 1/2. So I made this! CB. Aka Custom Beginning. All made by me from the ground up using resources I found around Nexus. See credit section for details. 

Everything that has been added are from Fallout lore imported from FO1/2 or NV. 



VERSIONS OF CB DELUXE

[new] CB Deluxe 1.3 introduces new GOTY optional add-on (which brings basic needs support to all foods in FO3) . rain weather (fire based weapons and power armor are affected by heavy rain and deep water), an oblivion-like 4 stage “vampire” adapted for fo3 (no sunlight damage or feeding on sleeping npcs), removed uniques from repair lists and added abraxo and leather belt to weapons and leather armors, added more items to Rock it launcher, added non game enforcing method for extra compatibility with other mods, sit anywhere by pressing and holding sneak button

CB Deluxe 1.2 useless perks (thief, scoundrel, daddy’s girl/boy, gun nut) made more useful, intense training perk replaced by gain perks, CB added content is now in loot and vendor leveled lists , primary needs and ammo weight,  reorganized menu, revisited all histories start items

CB Deluxe 1.1 now with Sprint Mod, Responsive Kill Reactions, added T3T misc icons as well as many tweaks and changes over previous version. Menu has been re-organized, few histories conditions have been updated. Highly recommended. Credits have been updated.

INSTALL AND REQUIREMENTS

YOU WILL NEED:
1. FOSE 
2. ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated  

Manually copy all files from Data folder into your Data folder.


CustomBeginningGOTY.esp  requires all DLCs and requires CustomBeginning.esp (which you have to load first the GOTY addon after) .  Without all DLCs this addon will just crash to desktop. 


CB will make changes to a couple of key quests and scripts in the game other elements in the game:

1. CG00 (birth) and CG04 (Escape!) quests in order to quickstart the game as alternative histories and "fake" a default game
2. All races have been linked as older/young versions of each other in order to dynamically switch between them making control of multiple histories
3. Some factions have been adjusted for extra histories

WARNING! These changes are crucial to have the mod working at all. 


The mod also makes many changes that are not essential such as:
1. Ingestibles/foods/chems for  in order to adjust for new  content and built in primary needs
2. leveled lists (i.e. vendor lists, loot) in order to adjust for new content or fixed FO3/DLC content or to introduce DLC content into DC (with the optional GOTY add-on)
3. Children have been made killable4. Perks have been adjusted to make the game more fun (intensive training replaced by Gain perks like FO1/2, black widow and lady killer available to all sexes...)
5. Repair Lists adjusted (unique items removed from all repair lists, leather belt added to leather armors, abaraxo added to weapons...) 
6. game menus have been edited to display ammo weight in the UI and other features ( night vision icon reminder, hud overlay for certain helmets...) 
and many more

NOTE: Any mods making changes to the items listed above will simply disable certain elements but the game will still be playable. 

STARTING WITH VERSION 1.2 this mod will include The Skeleton ver 1.0 mod by deedes. A custom skeleton that combines commonly used skeleton bones  enabling use of many other body/clothing mods. I am only using it for custom morphs. Please check the mod page once in a while see if there is any new updates as deedes wants to keep one version  in circulation to maximize compatibility. 

Please let me know if you are having issues with any mod I will investigate and make a  compatibility patch if necessary.  

This mod has been cleaned in conjunction with Updated FO3 Unofficial Patch and GOTY version of Fallout 3 to make sure this mod does not introduce previously fixed bugs I have implemented or re-implemented certain changes in FO3 Unofficial Patch. 

If you look in FO3Edit there are a few red entries . Those are entries have been checked by me and they don't cause any issues. The reason they exist is because 1. i re-implement some changes in unofficial patch and not use their mod elements but use my own instead 2. i didnt like some changes they made and reverted back to vanilla 3. they omitted a few things that i have fixed in the repair lists 



RECOMMENDED MOD COMBOS

This mod has been designed in such as way to be compatible with as many mods as possible. Even if said mods overrite some elementes of this mod is no trouble as long as essential CG00 -> CG04 and the 5 races are left untouched.

In order to enhance your game play I recommend playing this mod with other mods.

If you want more serious cripple effects try Triage Mod .

If you want hunger, thirst, sleep try RI Primary Needs or any other basic needs mod out there. There are others. Goes well with randomly spawning crunchy /chewy mutfruits around DC.  A primary needs will also be built in (optional) in coming version 1.2.

If you wanna play as a slaver (for ex choosing raider and becoming slaver etc) I recommend FNNCQ

If you wanna play Regulator and want more fun try Lawbringer Bounties , The Regulators 

For more Scavenger fun try DC Interiors , Outcasts Collection Agent Expanded,  Busworld.

For more overall fun try MMM RH Ironsights, GNR Enhanced , Ambient Wasteland  as well as More Perk, Ultimate Perk Pack, Wyr Perks . Companion Commander gives you NV like companion wheel command plus other enhancements. Other nice mods are Killable Children , Arefu Expanded , Rivet city Merchants .

DC Moods is strongly recommended.

For Chinese Ghoul try People's Radio 

For mechanic you can try RobCo Certified

For Android Tenpenny Tower Radio can be pretty nice 

A familiar friend FO1/2 pipboy in FO3 really handy if you want your hands free of pipboy . 



OVERVIEW OF CHANGES


Other that multiple histories and changes to factions which were necessary to accommodate multiple histories this mod also adds or changes many elements in the game to make it more fun. The scope of the mod is to make you wander more be less of a god and provides alternative ways of killing enemies . All enemies stats and weapons and armor and weights will be vanilla but stimpaks will be more rare, primary skills will be harder to get, and the house is not available right away anymore meaning you will have to use hotels or find alternative ways . I will eventually include safe non respawning areas to stash your loot which will be unique containers with unique names (coming soon). Until then keep what you have on you or sell everything for caps or have your followers carry some. 

This mod adds a few items to the game: healing powder, binoculars, scoped hunting rifle, unscoped 44 magnum,  fixer, slasher, 
Adds plants mutfruit chewy and crunchy to the DC wasteland that grow fruits every couple of days which can also be used as rock it ammo
Overall bugfixes and improvements a few changes to some of the food items and changes to repair lists removing uniques and adding leather belt for leather armors and abraxo for gunpowder type weapons as repair ingredients
Hunger, Thirst, Tiredness and ammo weight based on  New Vegas  all UI enabled


GOTY version re-distributes the shovel into DC wasteland found as rare item or as a weapon used by riders. Also certain weapons rifles, shotguns, laser rifles , armors from anchorage can be repaired with DC similar items and vice versa.  Also factions from DC that are similar to factions from DLCs are now allied/friends for ex broken steel enclave with enclave or pitt raiders with raiders etc.

In version 1.3 working rain weather has been enabled which affects all flame based weapons  and power armors when is heavy raining. Power armors not useful deep under water. Note that once operation anchorage is implemented  weathered power armors will work fine in all heavy rain or under water. Also meresti family race has been turned into a disease (which in a future release can be acquired by fighting family members in melee combat) . They get positive and negative effects when their disease advances. This is somewhat similar to oblivion you start at 0% and until 25% can be cured past that is incurable. Every stage will grant you certain boosts and -25 to disposition from non family members and eventually a loss in perception during sunlight (due to sensitive eyes). Also they get clawed attack mode at 100% disease stage.  

Since the changes have gotten so numerous I moved all the detailed description in the readme file contained IN the archive and on this site see the button above and right says readme and go to In Depth Guide



CREDITS

To remake alt start I have contacted Gribbleshnibit8 to ask him if I could port his NV version back to FO3. He said that at this time he doesn't want to port it but that I am welcome to use any bits of the old FO3 Alt Start to do anything I want with them to add it back to fo3.

Gribbleshnibit8 "You're more than welcome to take the FO3 version and do whatever necessary to split it from FWE. I do not at this time want the FNV version ported back."

I decided to rebuild a similar mod from scratch instead. Nothing has been copied from original Alt Start of FWE version. There are no assets taken from FWE or Alt Start. I owe my concept to Khet and Gribbleshnibit8 all credit for the concept to them. Thanks Khet &  Gribbleshnibit8!

My code is in fact based on Custom Start mod by TheMagician. He has released his code as a modders resource. The custom part of CB's mod name comes from there. He gives full complete permissions to his code doesn't even ask for credit. I have given credit to him though. It's just nice! Thanks TheMagician!

Glowing Eyes Resource you will find these resources under meshes/character/head/GlowingEyes and textures/character/GlowingEyes . These assets are released for free to Nexus by Kikaimegami as long as credit is due. So credit for him for the resource. Thank you Kikaimegami.

Male body Replacer mod by  by luthien21. You find the resource under Meshes/Characters/_male/upperbody.nif. According to his nexus mod he allows everyone to re-host this mod as long as credit is given. Thank you luthien21.

The feral eye (no longer found in the game) uses meshes/textures from Eyeball as Trophies found here  made by WW2dude. According to his mod site he allows full permission as long as credits are given and as long as he is told and informed that his mod is being used in another mod. I have sent him a message regarding this mod to inform him it's in my mod. Thank you WW2dude.

This mod incorporates a modified version of Multiple Power Armor Training plus by chai/ svartberg found here .

I was given permission by HighSight to include CRAFT pre-bundled with this mod. Thank you HighSight!

Binoculars come from Binoculars and Portable Scopes by atlanticmongrel . According to the mod page it's been released for everyone to use providing credit is given.

A few assets have been taken from Classic Fallout Weapons BETA by War1982. Also open to the public providing credit is given. Thos mod is amazing. Tahnk you War1982
 
I have taken gunpowder element from CALIBR Ammo Schematics - CRAFT by Bilarion . He allows everyone to use his mod assets providing credit is given. 

And man of my icons are from Pip Boy Icons Modders Resource by bro_nod. Thank you.

Ammo weights ui display is a heavily modified version of OnmyojiOmn's Displayed Ammo Weights made to work with vanilla ui instead of darn ui (which never worked for me ever). According to the mod's permissions the mod is free to change/use/modify. Thank you!

Head Fixes by throttlekitty . Although not obvious from the mod page , this mod is actually a modder's resource. Opening the mod zip file reveals all instructions and permissions which are granted in the readme file. This is a good resource as it fixes face morph issues and eyelashes etc. Is good to have. I included it. 

Malo (user name Kalten1979) and his mod Body Resize Mod . He has made a custom human skeleton that can reshape and resize all body parts using special morphing idles . I don't understand why but his mod has very few endorsements. I think his work is amazing!! Is the only mod of it's kind anywhere in fo3/nv. I have contacted Malo and asked him to use his mod assets include them here. He has granted me permission to do so. There is one tiny issue. Any pre-placed dead npc in the game will be twisted and weird until you touch or move them. I have a way to deal with this by touching them at a distance before you get the chance to see them. Thank you Malo!

This mod uses some plant X Y Z coordinates from Coleen's Fallout Foods mod found here and the meshes/textures by d_ivanov found here http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/11900/?. Both coleen and d_ivanov have released their mods for anyone to change or modify. Coleen asks to give credit if using anyone's resources. D_ivano's mod is not obvious that is free for anyone to modify because he released it before Nexusmods introduces presmissions. Looking in his mod on posts section you will see he specifies that "d_ivanov 22 kudos101 posts

I am using many resources as some of these things I don't know or am unable to make. I am more of a scripter than a modeller etc. So I use a lot of modelling /texture resources and some advanced scripting code snippets here and there. Always with credit and providing permission is granted . I try to be 100% good about this.

If I am mistaken in using anyones resources in a proper way is most likely an honest mistake please contact me I will remove any elements or even the mod itself or change it in any way to remove those elements.

Sprint mod has been adapted and fit into this mod. Credit goes to lork for that one. 

I have included a drastically modified version of Responsive Kill Reactions by Pekaboom into this mod. Credit goes to him for his mod. Thank you.

Healing Powder mesh is GunnySack.nif resource by  Ssenkrad. I have taken it from WASPS by picador although I only used that one resource. Was mentioned in the mod that he has donated the asset to the modder community and everyone is free to use it. 

Backpack assets from Lionhaerts Backpacks by lionhaert   He is no longer modding and specified that anyone are free to use his assets. 

 The Skeleton mod by deedes for custom skeleton that includes most common bones used in many mods .

I am releasing my code for this mod on nexus. Please feel free to use change modify my "code" or extend it or include it in your projects.

Note that while most code is free some assets/code are not. You must still get permission to locked assets/code from original creators. 

Some of the assets are in fact locked and I expressly asked for permission to use them which is why I can redistribute them legally. You will need to ask for permission to redistribute those assets . 

Some code is not mine. Enhanced weather scripts are not mine and used with permission and credit. They are made available providing credit is given. Some other scripts that are not entirely mine are camera swap and sit anyhwhere components in hotkeys quest.

Check credits section before taking anything out.
 


If you get permissions to use assets and code you are welcome to se anything out of this mod. Any assets marked as modder resource with open permissions you may take them out of this mod and  you may use my version of them but you still have to give credit to the original authors. Whatever you do  please do not rehost this mod in it's current form and or  please do use the name Custom Beginning for any of your mods .
