Post Office
========
Fallout 3 mod by Askfor
New in 1.2.4
-----------------
Option to request urgent delivery when shipment gets delayed.
Description
=========
This mod is similar to New Vegas Mojave Express mail delivery. You can
drop your junk in one of many blue mail drop boxes at Capital Wasteland,
and it will be delivered to the place of your choice with a couple of hours
delay. There are couple of simple steps to be taken
Step 1
------
Purchase P.O. subscription from Brenda May, a clerk at Rivet City. When you
enter Rivet City, don't go to the market, but use door to the left, which lead
to midship deck. First room to the right in the hallway is Post Office. Check
the image. You will need to have, at least, 500 caps in your inventory. How long
the subscription lasts is left to your imagination. When you pay you will receive
Post Office Locator, a setup tool.
Step 2
------
Choose where you want your shipments delivered. The spot must not be inside the
building. Choose some spot which is not in the way, because a container will be
placed right there. Navmesh can't be updated for obvious reason, so if you put it
somewhere where NPCs pass frequently they will try to walk over it.
When you picked a spot, click on Post Office Locator in your inventory, and you will
be presented with a menu. Choose 'I want my shipment delivered here'. If you are in
interior an error message will be displayed. If not you will receive a confirmation
message.
Step 3
------
Move away from the spot, go inside or fast travel and return couple of seconds later.
There will be a container in that spot. Your shipments will be delivered in it. The
container could have been placed right away, but this feels more realistic, as if someone
put it there while you were away.
Step 4
------
Go out there, pick up some junk and drop it in one of those mail drop containers. After
couple of hours you will find it in the your home container. If there is no mail drop
box around, you can request 'Mr. Postman' handy type robot to your location. It will
cost you additional 50 caps. 'Mr. Postman' has limitted (300 lb, I think) capacity, so
you might have to call a couple of them, and each time it will cost you. It has strength
10 and Strong Back perk. To invoke 'Mr. Postman' you need to have Post Office locator with
you, and choose appropriate menu option. You also need to have, at least, 50 caps in your
inventory. 'Mr. Postman' always appear about 30 meters to the north of your positiion. Make
sure that there is enough space to the north before you invoke it, otherwise it might get
stuck inside the building or something.
You don't have to carry Post Office Marker around once you have complete the setup. Keep
it somewhere safe if you wish to relocate the container, or if you plan to use 'Mr. Postman'.
Notice
------
There are two or three special mail drop boxes, different from the others.
One such is next to Vault 101. Those are not affected by this mod. Whatever
you drop in those special ones, will remain inside until you remove it.
Your placed container can not be accessed by NPCs, no matter how dire their
need is for whatever is in there. If they are starving they will not be able
to get food. If they are fighting for their lives, they will not be able to
take weapons.
Technical description
=====================
When you drop your stuff into mail drop box it is transferred to a hidden container
immediately. Every couple of hours the content of the hidden container is transferred
to your placed container. If your container is not available, delivery will be
scheduled for next time.
You can remove container if you choose appropriate option in Post Office Marker menu.
If you have your container placed, and go to some other spot and choose 'I want my
shipments delivered here', the container will be removed. After you go away and return in
couple of seconds the container will be placed at new spot. Whatever was inside
will be delivered with the next shipment.
Whenever the delivery has been made you will be notified with a message.
Obviously, deliveries are made more often than in real life. I assume that Capital
Wasteland is relative small place, and there are few people able to pay subscription,
so there are not many deliveries to be made.
Sometimes the delivery gets delayed. It happens more often when you save the game before delivery
takes place and quit the game. It looks like the game forgets date/time variables somehow. To address the
problem an option has been added to locator menu. If you choose 'I complain about delayed delivery',
your shipment will be delivered immediatelly. You can use that option only once in 24 hours.
It seems that it works better if you are inside while requesting urgent delivery. If you are outside, it may crash
your game for unknown reasons. I am not sure what causes the problem, the scripts are simple and straightforward.
