Update 10/10/2012
*///----------------------------------1010011010

Hey Hey! (Like Krusty the Clown says)

Update! So, i decided to replace the 3 torn museum paintings, since there are around 50 of each one in the Capital Wasteland. With this mod installed you will never see another empty frame or torn painting again!

Here is a shot from the GECK to give you an idea of how often you will see these paintings...

Now, this is with A World of Pain and DC Interiors and Yevics Urban Apartment and all DLC.

The 6 meshes replaced are:

O:\Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\emptyframe01.nif
O:\Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintingsm01.nif
O:\Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintinglg01.nif
O:\Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintinglg02.nif
O:\Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintinglg03.nif
O:\Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\QuestItems\emptyframeback.nif

And the 2 textures replaced are:

Fallout 3\Data\textures\clutter\QuestItems\tlpaintings.dds
Fallout 3\Data\textures\clutter\QuestItems\tlpaintings_n.dds

And the 3 new textures are:

Fallout 3\Data\textures\clutter\museum\painting_61.dds
Fallout 3\Data\textures\clutter\museum\painting_62.dds
Fallout 3\Data\textures\clutter\museum\painting_63.dds

These 6 meshes are used in many interiors in vanilla Fallout and in many mods. Look around in Big Town or the Museum of History and you'll see a few. The empty frame meshes and the small museum painting are just like the tranquility lane paintings. Also this mod replaces the 8 Tranquility Lane paintings in Fallout 3. You don't see them too much, but i use them alot in my player homes and other mods.

There are paintings all over the Calvert Mansion in Point Lookout, and Desmond even makes a reference to them when he talks about his "failsafe" saying "But that would have ruined the paintings"

Oh, check out A World of Pain for Fallout 3! Fantastic mod, and a few of those interiors use these paintings:

Alfresco Lounge
The Capitol Research Operations
Friendship Asylum Main Entrance

Also they are in Tranquility Lane, as indicated by the 'tl' in the filename, and probably other places i can't think of.

Oh, an Abandoned Home in Grayditch has one, and you get two if you buy the "pre-war" theme for your Tenpenny Suite.

And the classic DC Interiors mod by Chuck Steel uses one also.

This is a tastefull, no nudity version that i made to take screen shots of other mods i am working on ;) The version i personally use is NOT suitable for the Nexus, sorry, i am very jaded and quite depraved =P

From left to right, top to bottom, the beautiful ladies are:

Belladonna
Bobbi Star
Katie St. Ives
Lolita Haze
Sparky Sin Claire
Sammie Rhodes
Krysta Kaos
Princess Donna

And, the three ladies on the museum paintings are:

Sasha Grey
Annette Schwarz
Katie St. Ives

If you want to know what movies i took these images from, ask in the comments and i shall enlighten you ;)

This texture is 1024x1024 pixels, double the original size, but the performance impact is minimal if any. All of the "painting texture" detail is in the normal map and i am very pleased with the result. So, if the lighting is very dim, they will look more like smooth photographs than paintings. If someone wants a lower quality compressed normal map, let me know and i'll make it an optional file. 8 MB of GPU RAM compared to 5 MB is nothing, but i always try to compress textures first and see how much worse they look. My machine is almost two years old and i can't tell any loss of fps, but i was using a similar mod from New Vegas that was 4096x4096 and it was killing my fps in rooms where i had four paintings on each wall. That was really the inspiration for this mod.

no other mods are required, but you will need some form of archive invalidation to replace any textures in the game.

Installation Instructions
*///----------------------------------1010011010

As usual, just extract the .7z file you downloaded with 7-zip into your games data directory.

For me this is:

O:\Fallout 3\Data

The default path is something like:

C:\Program Files\Fallout 3\Data

or maybe

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Software\Fallout 3\Data

Say yes to merge and replace if asked. If you use a mod manager and/or have other textures replaced, you are done.

If not, get FOMM and toggle the invalidation off and on or use Archive Invalidation Invalidated by Quarn

And, if you haven't already, open up your FalloutPrefs.ini and FALLOUT.ini files (they are a folder above your games save files) and find (ctrl + f) the line

bInvalidateOlderFiles=0

and change it to

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

and save and close.

enjoy!

Any mod that replaces the same textures or meshes:

Fallout 3\Data\textures\clutter\QuestItems\tlpaintings.dds
Fallout 3\Data\textures\clutter\QuestItems\tlpaintings_n.dds
Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\emptyframe01.nif
Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintingsm01.nif
Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintinglg01.nif
Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintinglg02.nif
Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\museum\tornpaintinglg03.nif
Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\clutter\QuestItems\emptyframeback.nif

if you want to use a mod that replaces all the posters and billboards and paintings but still use these paintings, just install this mod again after you install the other one ;)

The torn museum paintings are new meshes i tweaked in Blender and Nifskope. Not too different from the original, but now they have an untorn canvas and use new tetures. If anyone wants to use them in their own mods, go right ahead! Just give me some credit ;) This is a resource for the Nexus community. The textures are nice and square, so you will have no trouble making your own paintings. Or use the textures too, either way. Enjoy!

All of the Tranquility Lane paintings are screen captures from Evil Angel movies. I have given Belladonna a LOT of my money over the years, and i have watched enough of her behind the scenes to know that she would be cool with this mod, even grateful for the exposure. Same with Sasha Grey, Annette Schwarz and Katie St. Ives.

Also i'll play the fair use card if i have to =P

Thanks to Zeropointrock for requesting more empty frames to be replaced!

Thanks to the Nexus for giving us a community for modding and such.

And thanks to all my Nexus friends! i almost feel like i have a social life! =P

If you enjoy any mods that you use, you should go back to the Nexus and endorse them. It will help encourage the mod's authors and motivate them to release future projects or other stuff they have lying around ;) And it makes mods easier for people to find on the Nexus.

Peace and Love! (like Vash the Stampede says)
