Camp Meridian - A Prototype for a Weatherproof Roof

I started work on this mod concept nearly two years ago and in frustration left it, came back to it recently, and have been working diligently to complete it. This is my final testing model which you are welcome to try or use as a way station for yourself in-game.
  • Intent: To stop the rain from falling through the roof of housing mods made in exterior cells.
  • Test subject: A small and commonplace wasteland tent (which btw I've since decked out and now it's a damned nice, small and commonplace wasteland tent)
  • Result: Can't be done of course :o in an exterior cell anyway, game properties as they are, but the desired result can be achieved with trickery and deception...I mean ~ illusion.
  • The effect: Allows the use of weather mods, keeps you warm and dry inside when it rains or snows outside, and allows you to look through windows or doors to the outside (or outside to inside for that matter) at the same time.
  • A subjective opinion: Using Skingrad's "Enhanced Weather" as one possible accompanying mod, the hours I've spent at Camp Meridian have been the most immersive moments I've ever experienced in the game.
  • Future application: Due to certain visual limitations this approach will probably work best in a limited fashion for specially designed rooms and exteriors in a much larger scale model. (My very next project for FNV as it turns out will use this application. Be looking for it: "Rancho Villa" - coming in late April or early May 2012. It's a monster...though still lore mind you.)

------------
Location and key:
------------
Find the camp map-marked northeast of Megaton, that mod-filled capital of the wasteland. (Sorry, that's where I put it initially not thinking about anyone else using it, and now it's stuck there.)
I've provided a key in case that's important to you. It's under the rock just to the right of the entrance.

------------
Installation:
------------
Nothing different here. Unzip and place meshes, textures, and esp file in your Fallout3/Data folder. There shouldn't be any overwrite necessary but do so if asked.
Checkmark and validate in FOMM.
I'll call this file v1 in case of the need for an update. I'm not planning on one unless you turn up something really awful I may have possibly missed. Your feedback will be required in that instance...and humbly requested in all others.
**New esp update makes a few corrections for unique identifiers. You still need the original file and then overide the esp with this update. Many, many thanks go to Freddy Farnsworth for doing the work on this while I'm off playing in the mojave. You can find his name in the comments section here and everywhere else on the nexus. This is what kudos are for, folks.

------------
Highly recommended mods, though not required, for use with Camp Meridian (If you don't have these you should get them):
------------

My personal preference is to use "Enhanced Weather" along with "Fellout". I've not quite been able to adjust color properly with "F3ProjectReality" though it is an excellent weather mod.
"Fellout" is essential if you don't want everything appearing in shades of grey or green. The sounds go without saying and "GreenWorld" or any of the terrific terrain altering mods out there should do well with this one. I even planted a few shrubs so they could grow into nice horizon-hiding trees should you choose to use this kind of mod.

------------
Possible issues (Important - read before you ask):
------------
  • This is a cleaned and mastered file courtesy of FO3Edit. Ignore the warning in FOMM. It's part and parcel of the cleaning process. Do NOT alter the file.
  • Megaton and the surrounding area are mod-filled I know. I could not begin to check them all but I'm not aware of any that sit on this particular spot or cell. If you have one of them that does you'll either need to uncheck that mod in FOMM or skip this one. Otherwise it's probably crash-city.
  • If you're not into lore this probably is a waste of time for you - meaning you won't find any secret caches here - nor an armory or med bay or sorters for all your stuff. Though you won't have to sleep on the floor as there are some actual beds and even chairs. One has to assume previous tenants were able scroungers or thieves.
  • You can't or won't for some unknown reason use a weather mod. Then you get a rather commonplace tent, actually a great tent, but without benefit of its reason for being.
  • Companions left inside while you go outside (or vice versa) are the primary illusion breaker. Keep them in follow mode or relax with them on the same side of the portal. If not you'll simply have to assume they're out of your line of sight. Clearly this mod has been navmeshed for their use should you choose to do so.

All the good folks here on the nexus, past, present, and future for your support and sense of humor. I've enjoyed it.
And thanks again to Freddy Farnsworth for the update.

Meridian: synonyms: apex,culmination,pinnacle,premier - final.

It's been nearly two years now and I'm bidding a fond farewell to DC to finally pay a visit to the mojave - the undoubted recipient of the next application of this process that I started with Camp Meridian. [Edit - and, yes, it's finally done. See link below.]
I've no doubt I'll make a return trip to wander the capital wasteland someday and maybe by then I will have perfected the process for you guys.

I wish you all well and
take care.
