The Wastelands Interiors Project: WIP

Now what's this? The Wastelands Interiors Project? Looks like someone's got too much time on his hands. Quite right, but anyhow. This mod project's goal is to add interiors to all those most of the previously non-enterable buildings around the Wasteland area, adding a lot of immersion and new places to explore. It's as simple as that, so I guess there isn't much more to say here.

Just for the people who do not just try out random new mods - this was inspired by the DCInteriors Project, just for you people who tend to use rather 'established' mods, sortof.

part 1: BIG TOWN

The first place in the wasteland where I noticed a real lot of non-enterable buildings was when I first discovered Big Town. You can enter the four houses in the center of town, but there are 8 houses on the outlines of the town that you cannot enter at all. I mean, of course the people have barred their homes when the bombs fell, but of course we also have a nice sledgehammer on our hands so we can simply kick down the door and see what's left inside that place.

Please note that I did not add interiors to all the houses in Big Town, there are still some few houses that are not enterable at all, but I found it quite realistic to have no interiors to those buildings for, well, tactical purposes if you like. I don't want to spoil any part of the game for those who didn't play these quests yet. But I guess those of you who know Big Town understand that some of the buildings shouldn't be enterable. Anyhow: There have been approx. 12 non-enterable buildings in Big Town, 8 of those now have quite unique interiors now.

I tried to make these interiors as diverse as possible, although I must admit that I didn't put too much effort into it, as these places are of very minor importance anyway. There are interiors now, but I won't pretend that each and every one is unique in it's way. They're generic interiors that look like 75% of the other houses around the wasteland. Of course I tried to add some diversity to them - some are enterable from the front door, others from the back door only, some have traps in them, some have a little this and that changed.

A neat little enterable sewer system has been added underneath Big Town, accessible from two of the houses or the drainage pipe on the north side of town.

Keep in mind that you cannot enter any of those buildings as long as you're not carrying a sledgehammer, a lead pipe, a tire iron or the like. You need heavy tools to break down the barred doors! Once you've opened the doors, you can always come back and don't have to carry a sledgehammer with you. Promised.

Changelog:

- corrected spelling mistake in the readme file (so people don't go and download the Oblivion Mod Manager)
- deleted the changes that were made to references created by the Fallout.esm to prevent any possible (but not very likely) issues with other mods
- removed the ghouls from the sewer system because they simply didn't fit the scenery of Big Town. added a chance of encountering super mutants instead
- made the trap in one of the houses actually working

Future plans

Since this is intended to be the 'Wastelands Interiors Project' and not just a mod adding interiors to the houses in Big Town, probably some people would like to know what follows next.

First of all - modding for this game is not being paid in any way, I'm just doing this for my very own entertainment, just like most other modders do. And in case I don't want to put any more effort into this, I will just leave it like it was. Don't expect anything from modders (like me), this is just some free-time work that I publish so you can use it if you like.

Enough of this. Future plans. So, I guess I am going to add interiors to the buildings around (mind: not in!) Paradise Falls. Probably.

Installation instructions!

The most important part of this text of course. Add the *.esp file included in the archive to the \\Data\\-Folder in your Fallout 3 installation directory. Upon starting the game, choose "Data Files" and tick that box beside the displayed name of the *.esp file. In case you use the Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) (which is highly recommended in case you do not use it yet!), I presume you know how to properly install a mod as easy to install as this one.

Compatibility section

There will not be any real incompatibilities with other mods like crashing issues or (save)game-destroying problems. I know that there are several (speaking of ten or more I think) mods around that change Big Town or its surroundings, there even is a mod that actually adds interiors to the same non-enterable houses as I did. I don't know if WIP-Big Town is compatible with those or not, so you will have to give it a try. Report in the comments section if you like.

For any other mod that does not change things around Big Town - they should be perfectly compatible.

Thanks to & other stuff of no importance

Hm, I've been doing this thing on my own, so I wouldn't know who to say "thanks" to. I guess thanks to Bethsoft for creating this game, thanks to chucksteel for creating the DCInteriors Project that some kind of gave me the idea for doing this. And, of course, thanks to YOU for downloading this mod!
