It had almost been a year since the fateful events that turned Corporal Allison Williams' world upside down. She had lost so much then. On the other hand, the support she got from her friends and her Uncle Tony helped her in more ways than she could ever have imagined. And now, it was time to take the next step in her life.
Sergeant Jessica Thompson walked into women's barracks just as Williams was strapping on her thigh holster. "Oh my God, Alli! You look gorgeous!" she squealed with joy. "Are you actually going to the Thanksgiving Ball?"
Lt. Williams blushed and paid the break in protocol no mind. Since joining the ERG the two of them had been the best of friends. In fact, Thompson was one of the most instrumental people in her recovery.
"Thanks, Jessi," she said. "My uncle Tony referred me to someone, so I decided to take a chance."
"Well I'm very happy for you, Alli," Thompson replied, giving her a small kiss on the cheek. "So who's the lucky fellow?"
Williams reached for her sidearm and placed it in the holster. "His name's Captain Roan. He's the aide to Major Xiang. I haven't met him, yet, but my uncle seems to be impressed, so I'm going to give it a try."
A knock on the door jamb drew both girls' attentions to Captain Carver. Like Williams, he too was dressed up for the big party. "My my, Alli. That young man should be thanking God on his knees he gets you at his side, tonight!"
Williams blushed even more. "Thank you, Captain. Is the truck here, yet?"
"Not yet, but soon," Carver answered. "We should go up and wait for them."
He turned his attention to Sergeant Thompson. "Thompson, it's time you started your patrol. Sergeant Brett will coordinate while we're gone."
Thompson responded with a salute. "Yessir!"
