About this image
She lost Track of how many weeks went by as she pushed herself hard to get home. Only fatigue or hunger caused her to stop and rest. Eventually, when she crested a hill, she collapsed to her knees and cried. Captain Carver himself had left his desk and was leading ERG Team 1 on patrol. Two hours later, a MAT truck picked them up.
On the ride home she was filled on what had happened. The missile overshot Boston by over 50 miles. The Commonwealth got a bit of a light show, and a few big waves, but that was all that happened. Since she had taken so long to complete her mission the Institute was about to declare her missing. The fact that she came back was just as emotional for them as it was for her. About half way through the trip, fatigue finally overwhelmed her, and despite the bumpy ride, she fell asleep.
As the announcement of her return reached the rest of the Commonwealth, people gathered near the Institute to give her a hero's welcome. Several reporters tried to get a few comments, but the Captain blocked them, telling them she would need to rest and get cleaned up before she could talk to anyone.
No one had anticipated just how exhausted she was. Sergeant Thompson and Corporal Gates had to help her out of her gear and helped to scrub down over two months' worth of dirt and grime. From there, they took her to the med bay for a quick check up to see if nothing else was wrong with her. With the necessary stuff finally done, she was helped into bed, where she slept for nearly two days, happy that all was all well.
