The impact of a baseball bat to her midsection woke her right up. Her body wanted to instinctively double over, but her restraints ensured that wouldn't happen. Regaining her wits, she saw she was obviously in a jail of some sort.
It turned out the man she had maimed last night was the brother of a member of the Traders' Council, the men in charge of the hub, and this was revenge for her actions. The woman with the bat gave her several more blows before stepping back and giving her partner a chance. Unable to resist she stared at him defiantly, daring him to swing his hammer.
That is when another figure entered the room and commanded them to stop and let her down. He identified himself as another member of the Council and apologized for his colleague's impropriety. She would be set free and her property returned to her, but she had 24 hours to leave, never to return here again. As she was only passing through, she had no issues with that judgment.
