About this mod

Only Fenris\'s lyrium tattoos will glow

Permissions and credits
Have you ever wondered why everything glows when Fenris does his magical fisting thing? It's not just his lyrium-tattooed skin: his clothes glow, his hair glows, even his tongue glows! Well, this mod aims to fix that problem so that only his lyrium tats glow. It may not have the same dramatic effect, but it's far more logical and realistic.

UPDATE (April 15, 2012):Several weeks ago, after a conversation with setiweb, I updated the Fenris glow. Now, when he activates his sustained modal Lyrium Ghost, he will use the cutscene markings provided by this mod rather than that all-over-the-place full-body glow. Setiweb has been testing this update for me for a while, and let me know that there's a cutscene with Ketojan the Saarebas where Ketojan uses the same glow Fenris does for Lyrium Ghost. The scene isn't very long, but I thought you ought to know. I had planned to do screenshots for this update and then release it, but I got lazy and never did the screenies... Oh well, here's the mod anyway.

UPDATE (July 3, 2011):Added a version to work with the new Fenris Jacket Retex featuring Fenris's claw gauntlets. See the bottom of this description for the link to that mod.

UPDATE (June 22, 2011):I added a picture showing a project I'm working on by request. It's to make Fenris's tattoos glow permanently. It's still a work-in-progress, and, as you can tell, his face tats don't glow yet. If anyone knows how to add an emissive mask to a face texture, please please PLEASE let me know. I've been trying without success for ages now.

UPDATE (June 12, 2011):I've uploaded a default edition that will be compatible ONLY with Fenris's default armor and any recolor of his default armor.

UPDATE (June 12, 2011): I've made a default edition (as per suggestion), but I don't feel the quality is good enough to put on this site. I've added a picture showing the problems that come with using the default edition of this mod with Fenris's default armor. If there are enough people who would be all right with the tiling issues (which is something I sadly can't fix), I'd be more than happy to post the default edition file. Please comment your feedback -- good, bad, doesn't matter.

Thank you so much for the kind words, great feedback, and supportive endorsements! And a special thank you to Killerrob, Zrd, and maymay1588 for their user-submitted screenshots!! User submissions are always the best form of feedback.

I created this, firstly, for personal use to work specifically with the jacket retextures from my Fenris Files mod. The jacket version permits only Fenris's chin/neck tattoos to glow during the cutscenes where he goes into that rage mode. If you're using his default armor or a recolor of his default armor, you'll want to download and install the default edition that will let his arms and feet tats also glow.

ONLY DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL ONE VERSION AT A TIME! If you're making Fenris switch armors after you've romanced him, you will need to delete the file you were using pre-romance and install the alternative version. Here's an example: You've got your game set up so that Fenris wears his default armor pre-romance and one of my red jacket retexture from The Fenris Files post-romance. For the best and most realistic results, you'll want to have the Improved Fenris Glow - Default Edition installed pre-romance. Once he's switched outfits after your one night (sad face), you'll want to remove the default edition from your override folder and install the jacket edition. If I've confused you, please PM me.

To my knowledge, there are no compatibility issues with this mod. If you run into a conflict, please let me know. Unfortunately, because of the way the new files and textures behave, this mod will behave strangely if used with the permanent glows from my Fenris Files mod. If you choose to have the two glow mods installed, they won't conflict, but the markings won't line up properly when Fenris does the fisting thing. I'm already working on making the files play nice, please be patient with me.

Just an FYI:The glow isn't a full-body texture like an armor or a skin. Instead, it's a smaller texture that is applied like a pattern or tiles. This means the glow is not restricted to just Fenris's neck/chin, arms, and feet tats; the pattern is also on the backside of each hip in the jacket version and under the arms in the default version. It's hardly noticeable and not immersion-breaking in the jacket version. In fact, you probably wouldn't have even noticed it if I didn't say anything....but it's only fair I be upfront.

I have always and will always be more than happy to fulfill your requests as adequately as possible. The only thing I seek in return for my work is not endorsements or praise; the only thing I require is that you talk with me first before using the content that took me hours, weeks, even months to create. In addition, uploading my files to other sites without my permission is strictly forbidden, that includes FilePlanet.

Install:Override folder (Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age 2/packages/core/override)
